treasure seekers

One of the best places to dig for old bottles is, believe it of not, old out house locations. Now, I'm not talking any thing that has been used in recent times, but around old home sites you will usually see a depression in the ground that is from what once was the outhouse location. Now it will just be dirt. I have seen an amazing number of bottles come out of these plus some other cool stuff. Hey, who wanted to go in for it if you dropped a coin down the hole. Often they were filled in by dumping trash in the hole. This included old bottles.

Andrew..I've been researching Claudius Smith..He supposedly has a treasure of silver and gold hidden in orang county NY..If you want to combine efforts that'd be cool.

That would be great. I would love to combine efforts. Unfortunately I have three more weeks of classes. I will start looking into the topic a little bit now. Once I finish my exams and return to CT, I will be able to commit more time to it. Maybe one day we could meet up and see if we could find some treasure.

I would love to join you guys, assuming you're willing to split the treasure three ways. :D

I would be glad to have your company on our quest for gold. I haven't done any research on the topic yet, but if the treasure is supposedly hidden in a wooded area, we could go camping and practice survival skills as well.

Great! I actually know the area around Claudius Smith's Den fairly well. My pooch fell through the ice over the Augusta Mine (not far from the den) this winter. And I know of a couple of cool caves in the area as well. :D

My best metal detecting experience was when I answered an ad in the local paper looking for someone with a metal detector to find a part that fell off a logging skidder in the woods near where we live. My son (who was about 10 at the time) and I arranged to meet the logger in the woods and he explained where he thought the part fell off and said it was worth $100.00 to him if we found it. I told my son I'd split it with him if we found it. The area turned out to be 1800 feet long and 400 feet wide! The boy and I slowly detected our way down the center of the cut (where the skidder generally operates) with no results. We started back, more or less resigned to having a nice walk in the woods being our only pay off. I was absent mindedly swinging the detector back and forth as I walked when I suddenly got a loud beep. I gave a small lump of vegetation a kick, and there was the part, a bearing cap about 8" in diameter. I don't know who was happier, the kid and I or the logger. He told me the cap would have cost him $800.00 to replace.
