Tree-felling, ESEE style!

An IZULA
I'm sweating at the thought of cutting down the tree with that!!!
That said I just ordered an ESEE-3 MIL that I would be willing to try it out with :D

You do know that I am now going to be up in the same area now finding larger trees :D haha (Gotta love living in the bush!)

Funny you say that about the 100 year old oak... In keeping with the conversation I have had with Jeff on this thread about respecting the forest, there is an area close by my place with a great big old oak that wouild be AT LEAST 4 foot in diameter at the bottom. The sad thing is that the forestry just reclaimed this land from a 100 year lease. This tree will be cut down very soon and burnt in a heap simply to plant out the area with pine. Maybe me and the ESEE-3 should get there first so the tree at least has the chance to turn into something beautiful :) (a tree that size would make a lot of nice furniture!!)

Now my question is what would the prize be for such an effort
:p !!!

It's still up in the air. We'll keep discussing it on our end.

I whacked down a ~7" alder tree a couple of weeks ago with a knife. Was a pretty good time. I would definitely go bigger, but I'm not sure where the line should be drawn as far as safety is concerned. You have to get pretty up close and personal to cut down a tree with a knife.

I say the person who cuts down the largest tree gets a $500 shop credit!

no

I think I would have used my Estwing axe instead:). Impressive that a knife can do this but that is a alot of work for a 5.25 inch blade. Why not baton the knife in a wedge format into the tree?

Well, if we're not going to make it interesting then why not just fire up the Husky chainsaw?

Oh, I agree. If I were going to cut down a large tree it would be using a baton to knock out chunks. ;)

A 4' tree trunk with a knife.

you win a psychological evaluation. :D

Hahaha. I spend my weeks trying to finish off a PhD at uni - so when I get back to the woods and the farm of a weekend I tend to go a little crazy

So, be thinking about that 100 year old oak tree in the neighbors yard that's 3 foot in diameter at the base :D

I'd like to see the felling of a 3 foot diameter tree with an Izula - now THAT would take a bit of work!

At least it would be covered by the warranty if you broke the knife in the process.

incredible: 20 minutes?

i ordered an RC5 (new name=?) a little while ago and it should be in my post box on Friday.

I was hoping to baton some larger sticks/branches for a fire or two and I was wondeing if it could handle a bit more than my Fallkniven F1.

I guess it can. LOL

They should hold a contest to see who can chop through a small house first, kind of like a race.

Great work, Danito! I just wonder why you didn't shave yourself with that RC5 afterwards? :D

Those are great pictures. I seems to me that the RC 5 beat the crap out of the tree rather than other way around. It did that all in 20 minutes too. I guess that's what happens when a tree is hit by a tank and the RC 5 sure is a tank.

Yep, about 20 minutes was all it took! The knife is simply a tank!
Hahaha fun idea, not sure who would provide the small house though!!

Thanks! Well the knife will still take the hair off my arms even after that abuse and I accidentally sliced through my jeans and cut my knee  !
