I've started the removal of a 30-foot Eastern Hemlock in the back yard. One limb at a time.

Tools: 16-foot extendable saw and a 2007 FBM-SE.

Pics to follow.

Be careful!

That is dangerous, even if you know what you're doing. I hope you have at least a little help.

You should make a game of doing it with just the FBM.

Nah, it's a lot safer to take off the limbs with the extend-a-saw and then reduce them to pieces with the FBM. At some point, I'll have to stand on a ladder and use the saw for limbing, but the limbs that high up are pretty small.

The REAL test is going to involve getting the trunk down. AK-47? :D

if a tree falls in the fores...

nevermind, just have the paramedics post pics

.

What is the trunk diameter? Can't you notch it and drop it with the FBM, then limb it?

or you could invite the other TN hogs and piglets to a little party, make them work for food and beer.

Sounds like you could finally get that Darwin Award.

Nah... I tried that. FBM LE worked better for me. The SE oughta be just as good or better!

He said it was 30 Feet:D Oh, that's not the diameter. Then it must be the radius, huh?

Now, that would be a Busse Feat:p

Is your garden big enough to fell the tree in one go ?

if so you can have lots of fun with a big knife getting the brances off ? and have an excuse to use a chainsaw !!!

Im an arboriculturalist so i do this sort of thing for a living !!! its tough work but someone needs to have fun with chainsaws and big knives !!!!!

be carefull though, accidents are easy to have.

You really did a job on that one!
Thanks for the pics:D

I'm kidding. Be carefull man.

And you do know you only have 24 hours to add pics to a thread don't you...or this thread is useless:D

Again, kidding. Be carefull man.

I took out a forty foot spruce in my front yard last year. I worked my way up, delimbing as I went. I took out all limbs but the crown. Using winches and ropes, I put a good, taut stress on the tree and took out the top half first - then the bottom. Fun times!

Be careful!

This is exactly how I plan to go about it. Great minds think alike!!! :D

(Or is that Darwin Award candidates think alike? :o )

Here is the offending tree. As you can see, it crowds my pecan tree and hangs over part of my driveway.

I was just guessing the height, but I can shoot the tip with my laser rangefinder before I take it down.

Here are the tools:

And here's about an hour's work:

Just walked out and shot the tip with the laser.

12 yards (36 feet).

Since you have to stand out a bit and shoot up at an angle, I'd say 30 feet was a pretty good guess.

I think you were right with the Darwin Award part. I had a neighbor outside taking photos as I was finishing it off. I presume to sell to the paper in the aftermath of the expected tragedy... pessimist! ;)
