Trekking poles vs a stick

I like the trekking poles if I am out to gain ground, walking to get from point "A" to "B". If I am going on a hike to relax, or if I am camping, I prefer a stick. I just do. When I am walking along a trail on my way to a multiple night camp and find a potentially good walking stick, I will pick it up and it will become my fireside project and I will strip it and carve it a little. I might have brought some extra line to make a lanyard for it, or burn some words or a crude picture in it.. Then I will put it in a slightly out of the way place so eventually a future hiker might stumble upon it when they need one. Kind of a Karmic thing.

I'll take a walking stick, but can see where the poles are nice too. After having to really lean on my stick to make it through some tougher hikes with heavy load, I cannot imagine a pole working as well for me. Instead of adjusting the height I simply grab it in a different spot. It also comes in handy for wrapping some spare paracord which makes for a good grip too.
