How is yours fairing? Mine started falling off almost from the get-go and now it is completely off as well looking like it is decomposing. And it is not because of over-use or excessive sweat. I may have used it maybe 20 hours total since I bought it some years ago.

So is yours doing better and if not, how did you fixed it? What pisses me off is that this is not a cheap helmet, love the rest but quality in all parts would have been nice. :(

Thanks

***UPDATE*** The company made things right by sending me a replacement. Very grateful to them.

Foam headbands will deteriorate with age. You want to have a spare for when they start to fall apart, but you don't want one that is as old as the one in the hood. Trend isn't the fastest selling item, so the hood and any replacement bands may be years old when you buy them.

I replace headbands about every year or two as a general maintenance rule. There is a lot of bacteria that gets in them. I think some of the deterioration may be due to the rubber being eaten by these microscopic critters. Also, some mites will invade foam rubber and make it fall apart.

Send Trend customer service a photo of the band and the info on age and use. I bet they send you a new headband ... or two.

Thanks a bunch Stacy, it worked. The company made things right by sending a replacement, even one for the top headband as well as the plastic armature. Very happy about that. It is much better made too, with a velcro attachment like the top one.

I am not a big fan of foam headbands, I prefer leather, short-trimmed sheepskin, or terrycloth. Heavier helmets need a firmer headband. Welding supply houses carry a wide variety of replacement headbands with snaps or velcro fasteners that will fit most head gear. Like Stacy says, replace them (or wash them) before they get too icky.
