Tri-ad lock opinions?

I bought a new mini-Lawman for my 8-year-old grandchild. My son and I were quite surprised when my grandson unwrapped his gift and could NOT depress the lock at all. My son, 6'2" and about 200#, could BARELY depress it. I had similar problems. My son said "Well, the boy will grow up sometime, so we'll just put this in a drawer and keep it for him until he's stronger."
I wouldn't even buy one for myself...based on that experience.

Based on this, I am awarding myself the nickname "Thumbs of Steel." :)
I've had no issues with unlocking the Tri-Ad...you just have to push it down further.

I have the Recon 1 and have no problem closing it one handed. Great knife, great lock.

I have no trouble with them either. Just when they're new it takes a bit more effort, but they ease up pretty fast as they break in.

You can't depress it like a standard backlock to disengage... Once you fully accept that, it becomes a non issue. And the "extra effort" pressing it further down is well worth the trouble.

I'm more than happy with my standard backlocks but wouldnt mind it if I saw Demko's lock eventually reach other brands like Spyderco on some of their backlock models. Unlikely but if it did happen, I'd pay attention. BTW, one release to keep tabs on is the Spyderco Tatanka with the new Powerlock... It may be a beefed up backlock like the Demko.

Idk why people say you can't close it with one hand, you can do it easily. Just put your pointer finger in the choil and let the unsharpened part of the blade hit it. I've been doing this for years and have never cut myself. It does take a little more force to depress than most lockbacks but if you can't do it relatively easily you should probably start riding a mountain bike or something.

I'm a huge fan of Cold Steel though. I love how overbuilt the triad lock is. I'm sure most people could get most of their cutting tasks done with a ten dollar opinel , but people like variety and huge strong blades.

Try to open it halfway, or at whatever point the lock-spacer is pushed the furthest up at the front, and leave it overnight. By doing this, the lock-spacer will loose a bit of tension, and will become easier to close.
