Tribal Spear for one full year.

Very nice. Glad to read that it's getting some good use. Surprised that the blade hasn't needed sharpening!

I'm anxiously awaiting receipt of Bose/Case Tribal Spear in a couple of days so I've enjoyed reading your updates. I'm impressed that it hasn't required more sharpening. I've only had my first Bose/Case collaboration knife, a Norfolk, for a few days and already I have two more Bose/Case collaboration knives on order!

6 months and sharpened once? We must use our knives very differently :)

That being said, I am particularly anal about having my blades like razors :)

Yup, only sharpened once. I'm as surprised about that as y'all. It bears mentioning that I'm not one of those guys who needs a blade that can tree-top hairs, so other folks' experiences with edge holding may vary. As long as it still cuts cleanly without binding, I usually don't mess with an edge. I spent a few minutes with some black and then green compounds on a strop yesterday, and she's back to razor now though. I've always liked 154CM for its edge holding. Properly-treated 154CM holds a razor edge about as long as most other high-end steels, but it seems to hold on to a "medium sharp" edge FOREVER. Case obviously has their heat treat right on these.

The reason I haven't spent much time on the traditional forum lately is because I usually hang around when I'm on the prowl for suggestions for new knives, or to share my observations on knives I've recently purchased. I honestly don't think I'm going to find a traditional knife that performs any better than this tribal spear. It is darned close to being perfect, any way you look at it. You really can't ask for much more, especially from a production knife! I've been spending most of my time, finances and "collector energy" on guns lately. That said, the traditional bug bit me again the other day and I ordered one of the AG Russell gunstocks, because they just look so cool. :D AG knows his stuff, I really don't care where he has his knives made.

Andy, thanks for the update. I think it looks better with some use under it's belt too. ;) And I have you to thank for bringing this one to my attention. I absolutely love the tribal spear design and my ebony spear finds it's way into my pocket more often than not. I have noticed the edge holding ability is incredible on this knife as well. I like mine razor sharp too and I find myself only sharpening maybe once a week. And, it's because of this knife that I have bought other Case/Bose colab knives. Now, the coffin jack might start taking away from the tribal's carry time. :D

I have two Tribal Spears and one of them sees a lot of hard use. After about 3 months it still looks close to new even after dropping it a few times. The chestnut bone is holding up perfectly. I do touch mine up about once every other week to get it back to easy-shaving sharp but that is all. There is something about this knife that just begs to be used for things I would not use on some of my other slipjoints.

I also own a Case/Bose Muskrat and recently sold a Norfolk (should have held on to that one) but the Tribal Spear is my favorite so far. I too am lookng forward to the Coffin Jack!!! :)

Thats a nice knife there Andy,
it will be interesting to see how the next six months go, and it is amazing that you have only stropped that knife once!!
To be honest, with my ( lack of ) skills in sharpening AND stropping, I probably would have done this ( maintane ) more than you.
I am glad you are not sleeping in the nude while carrying that knife at knife my friend....having a dream about whitling would not be good at all :D

great to hear it holds up so well! I didn't hear anything about a coffin jack o.O sounds pretty exciting though.

Good luck, Andy!

I thought already about doing something like this. But I feared I could fail... So I didn´t do it.

I hope you can do it, and good luck at least...

I think if one us nerds tries to do something like this, it´s like stopping an addiction from one day to the other...

Kind regards
Andi

The Tribal spear really is a solid knife. Great shape, great build quality.
