Those are amazing!
I imagine it will take at least a nice portrait of James Madison to take these home!

Kerry - are the bolsters mokume? Or heat treated differently? They have a great color in your photos.

And for those who don't know who James Madison is -

I'd be up there bidding on them except for the fact that my wife would divorce me.

On the bright side, it might be easier to find another wife than it would be to get another Bose. (I'm just sayin'...) :p

Yeah, but my wife is a divorce lawyer, so I would wind up having to sell the Bose to buy food. :(

It's fun to dream, aint it? But in reality, the Madison might only be a low starting bid!

Those two together might be the center piece of anyone's collection.

Now that's a pair you can dream about!;)

It has the appearance of mokume but I believe the bolster, shield, and blade(different pattern), are made out of Devin Thomas Damascus. Only the blade is heat treated, which might account for the different coloration after etching. Tony may have applied the etchant on the bolsters and shield with a q-tip after the knife was assembled which would result in a lighter etch. The blade was dip-etched and then lightly Scotchbrited.

In the Case image, it looks like that coloration was "adjusted" or "removed" either in the images or in reality.

I'm glad you also noticed that!
After thinking it looked just like mukome in that other thread, it had me starting to doubt my mind a bit:p
