I
ve wated to do this for a long time and finally twisted up some line using Dogbane fibers. The gorge is from turkey leg bone, crawlers pick outa the yard and kept in a birchbark can.

Nice looking cordage. Spreading Dogbane (Apocynum androsaemifolium) or Indian Hemp (A. cannibinum)? Let us know how you do, I have never tried it myself.

Very nice handcrafted equipment !! You deserve some good results now. I have never used a gorge, and I've never come across anybody who has successfully used one....but the idea seems great, and I hope to read the details of your success.

I have caught fish this way some 25 years ago in a creek in Tennesee.
I used river cane for the pole and a small sliver for the gorge.
Caught 6 blue gills (Brim):D Now I want something bigger.;)

Thanks guys. I added about five feet tonight and reduced the gorge size a bit.I hope to get back out soon.

Six fish caught using a gorge is quite a unique achievement for this day and age.

Did you thread a worm on the gorge as shown in your picture for the bluegills?

Did you have many strikes where you lost the bait and didn't get a fish?

Fantastic!

Yes, you have to let the little buggers swallow the thing; when you give it a twitch the bone turns sideways in thier gullet. Didn't have strikes and loss that I can remember, but it was was back in 1982.:p:D

gundy, I'm tryin.:o:D

Well, I did it,but not as big as I would like(they never are:o)and I would have stayed later but my fishin partner got bored.

If I ever get out early enough I want to spin up a fire and cook the little buggers on a stick grill, just to say I can. Might be tough in town:cool:
