I survived!
I adjusted the drill speed as low as it would go, chucked in a Rigid HSS rated 7/32 bit and went at it for about 30 minutes. I tried drilling a pilot hole first with a much smaller bit, but it didn't touch it. The 7/32 bit finally started to cut, but the wife hollered it was time to go and I got hungry so I'll have to finish it up Friday night.
