I made a small pile of shavings and touched it with a lighter and it went up. This is great stuff. I tried with a ferro rod but was unsucessful. It is probably my technique. I will try with a cotton ball underneath and see if I can get it to burn. My boys are the ones doing the shaving and the ferro rod striking by the way. Boyz love fire, who would have thunk it.

p.s. thanks to countryboyscansurvive for the fatwood!

I just used the saw from my SAK to make a small pile of dust and it took a flame from my ferro rod with no problem.

I'd also like to thank countryboycansurvive for the hookup. Love the piney smell of it.

Scrape it instead of shaving it, either with the edge of your knife at 90 degrees, or the spine of your knife if it is sharply squared. This will give you finer, fluffier scrapings that will catch easily with a steel. Good luck, I love this stuff.

ive been looking all over by my house for some fatwood. no luck. maybe when i go up north to wisconsin in a few weeks ill have more luck

Yeah by far the best way is to make some dust with your SAK saw, then once ignited with the firesteel place the shavings on top !!!!

Glad you guys are enjoying it. It is some great stuff. It will go with ferro rod. Just make a larger pile of shavings and maybe make them a little smaller.
