I tried my hand at making a Hells Bells bowie today. I think I did ok but I think the guard is a little too thick. What do you all think?

Bill,
I agree, the guard looks a bit (read very) thick.. Also there seems to be a disconnect from the handle to the blade. That might just be the angle of the photo but it really jumped out to me. Just my humble input..:D

I agree about the guard, and I also think the handle could have a little more flare toward the end.
It's a good prototype. Now, make it lighter.

Agreed, but a close look at the picture makes me think the likely culprit is the angle.

Thinner guard, longer blade. What the heck, stick a .22 cal barrel on it too. :D

The current guard doesn't look bad, in fact it looks sturdy in a solid looks don't matter kind of way. With that guard and a longer (read: 10") blade I'd love it. :)

Hi Bill I agree with Chuck and Lorien the guard looks to thick to me and not sure if it is the angle of the pic but the spacer looks narrower than the ricasso.

Nice looking blade shape. I will repeat what others have said about the guard. Also, that handle will look and feel better if the edges are chamfered.

let me take back what I said about making it lighter.
