That's under $10.00 at our local hardware outlet. It's the Fiskars sliding blade saw that weighs under 4oz. I gave it a workout on pine limbs ranging up to 4" diameter and it did a great job. The blade locks up solid and didn't budge during use. It's cuts well on the softer wood, but I havn't tried it yet on oak. I will when I get some though.

I see everyone talk about the gerber, well I saw the fiskars at a store. They're the same right?

It is a great saw for the price and they dont come any lighter I have found. If it will cut through froxen beef femurs it should be gtg with oak. ;) It can be resharpened if you have the patience.

I don't think there is any more cutting power for the weight and price. They do make me a little nervous for survival use-- a little too much plastic for life-n-death stuff. I favor the Kershaw/Bahco folding saws, but they are twice the weight and cost too. With a little care, the Gerber/Fiskar saw would build you a shelter and a roaring fire.

Longbow,

Thanks for the review. I have one and haven't tested it yet. You always hear good things about Fiskars saws and the 14" hatchet. I have eyeballed the old Fiskars puukkos that have been up on ebay a couple of times too.

Wow! I am looking for a packable/folding saw like that. I am happy with my Opinels and wanted the Opinel saw but the store where I saw it sold the last one a few days back. I checked in a hardware store and I saw the Fiskars. They had it in two sizes... one just like that and another one almost double the size. The small one had a little up and down play even when l tigthened the plastic nut and the blade seemed a little thin for me. While using it... does it feel solid?. I just don't quite like the plastic nut.

Mikel 24, there is no play in the blade on my unit and it is solid when in the extended and locked possition. I havn't used it enough to see if it will deteriorate over time, but up to now, it has performed well for me.

I have the Fiskars pictured above but with fine tooth blade and I love it...great for the pack because of its light weight.
Came across a Fiskars at Ace Hardware that is twice the size and has an aggressive pruning blade...rips through 4" log like a hot knife through butter. It my only Camping Saw now.

Great saw been using and abusing it hard for 5 years.

The blade is flexible side to side but stiff when using it. Dont worry about the plastic its tough stuff. Hell its only $10 try one out. I have the shorter one and its perfect for wood 3-4 inches diameter or less. I have sharpened it 5 times now using my leatherman diamond coated file. Works perfect.

A great piece of kit.

How much bigger/longer is the larger Fiskars saw?
Anybody own both and have a side by side pic?

Fiskars sells more traditional style folding saws as well.
I haven't seen them locally but they do turn up on ebay occasionally.

This is one of the little things in this forums that really drives me nuts... :D I am from Spain and let me tell you that the FISKARS packable saw we are discussing about is by no means 10$. In euros that should be like... uh... 6,95€... and trust me, the price tag I saw this morning was like three times that. If I can't find anyone that I like better I will surely get a hold on this one (maybe both, the small and the big one) now that you all told me it is a great tool.

I can't help it but anytime I see someone saying: "Oh well that Spyderco it is a great knife and it is only 40$ (just an example)" I cry... Here in Spain you should expect to pay like 100€ just for a little Delica (100€ is about 143€). Lucky me I can get some stuff on the internet (I bought four Spydercos not long agoy from an eBay shop).

I have two fiskers saws. I wanted a silky but I couldn't find one locally. The only problem I had is the blade bent. It didnt brake so it could be straightened and is still usable.

I want to get the 10" version of this saw. Cheapest I've found it so far is $17 and change.

They do make me a little nervous for survival use-- a little too much plastic for life-n-death stuff.

In a pinch, it would be pretty easy to fashion a handle out of wood if the plastic bit the dust.
