I have a glass platen on the way from USKM but was wondering if I should trim the existing platen so that the glass just fits and is the exact width of the 2" belts?
As it is I can get the belts to do and contour cutting b/c I can't get the angle on the edge of the belt b/c of the overhang of the factory platen. You can see in the attached picture there is about 1/4 on one side and 3/8 on the other. Trying to get at 90 degrees on the edge of the belt is impossible with the existing platen overhang.

Thanks,
John

I've got the same grinder, waiting on the glass platen though. I don't really see any point in messing with the platen, especially since you're going to be attaching the glass anyways.

The glass gives you some depth to work with and it's rare that you'll need more than it provides. The only complaint I had was that the design of the metal platen got in the way of using most plunge guides.

Yes, I noticed this just before while testing some new belts and practicing on some cheap stock. I'll probably modify it to do what I need it to do or have someone weld me up a more usable piece. I'll have to play around with it before moving forward mounting the glass to it in the current config.
