I had plans to go camping this weekend with Eric (Duzzy on Bladeforums), his girlfriend Monica, and my wife.
I have wanted Andy's (Fiddleback) knives for quite a while but the money and timing had never worked.... until now. The box arrived about six hours before leaving! Great timing. I was late heading out, missed a bunch of stuff, and was way to rushed at the end of the day, not the way a relaxing weekend should start. All that changed once we got to the campsite. There was just something about being back in the mountains that makes me happy. The air smells like Oak trees and Mist and the night sky is black and clear. All the constellations are visible and the air is crisp. Eric and Monica pulled up about two minutes after us and we both started setting our tents and starting our fire. Eric nursed a great flame out of the damp wood that we had on hand and really saved the night! We cooked dinner and had smores and hung out around the fire until 1am when we all decided to turn in. At around 8am, I was the first one awake and started packing my backpack for the hike. I was enjoying the quiet morning until I heard a shrill woman scream "Johnathan...Get back here!!!". I looked up to see a naked four year old running from his parents camper and I almost fell over laughing. Eric and Monica got up shortly after but Kristen refused to come out of our tent until there was a warm fire. Eric and I were splitting kindling and with every big cutting tool we had, hatchet, kukris, machetes, belt knives, etc... It was good fun and there was a roaring fire shortly after. We cooked breakfast and headed out to the trail to begin our hike. We decided to hike the Cat Rock trail in Cunningham St park. There were a lot of neat things along the way but we will have to wait for Eric to post those pics. I snapped a few scenery shots along the way but that's about it.

There were some nice rock formations to climb around on and I slipped on my favorite bouldering accessory, a small hook that ties around my wrist to help me get traction on the smoother rocks.

Here's Eric climbing up to Monica at the top of "Cat Rock"

Eric found a nice shady rock to photograph some knife porn. He's shooting his Fiddleback Woodsman. He will be here shortly to put his pics up.

I thought it was a good idea so I busted out my new Fiddleback Ladyfinger for a couple shots. Notice the polish I put on it while sitting at my desk at work waiting to leave for camping:D

Now... on to the knives. I mentioned that I got a box of yummy Fiddleback goodness before leaving. Here they are in no particular order. Two of them (Snubnose and Ladyfinger) have leather from Andy and the Nessie has a JRE sheath. Andy's leatherwork is amazing. I'm especially impressed with the stippling on the Snubnose sheath.

Lets start with the knife I can't keep, the small Nessie.
Don't get me wrong I love the knife but unfortunately my wife claimed it as hers and now, I'm not sure I will be able to get it back:D.

The spaulting on the O1 steel is gorgeous and the grinds are perfectly even.

I also polished this one just a little with some Filtz.

Breaking in a nessie on some nice flank steak.

Impressions- The handle is thin and I thought I wouldn't like it but it is very comfortable (I have big hands) and the curves are just perfect. It is thin 3/32 stock and cuts light media like steak without effort.

Next up is the Snubnose. Its Perfect! I have strange taste and this is one beautiful ugly knife:D I mean that with as much love as possible for the snubby. I wanted a knife for heavy carving, mainly on hardwoods for traps and bows, etc... The handle is much larger than I expected. It fills my hand and has a perfect amount of curve in the handle for extended use. Here are some shots, along with a couple Paiute Deadfall pics from playing around by the campfire.

That picture of me taking a picture sure shows how fast my hair is leaving me... I just started uploading mine, and since it took over an hour and a half to get them off my camera--it might take a while.

I did however throw up some knife pictures in the Fiddleback Forum.

Great pics! That looks like areally fun time. I've never seen those hand hooks, they look cool.

Last up, the Ladyfinger. That's Andy's bird and trout knife. This one is my new EDC as of today! It has a perfect size, shape, handle, etc... to make it a jack of all trades bushknife. It will excel equally at food prep and firecraft. It seems like the perfect compromise in a bushcraft knife. I think the guardless bushfinger is gonna be my next purchase from Andy in November. I can't say enough about the Ladyfinger. On to the pics.

Nice polish, took less than five minutes.

After two days of playing with it and carving and battoning seasoned oak for firewood it still made curls like these!!!

I also wanted to put up a video of a new yucca bow drill I just made but unfortunately I blew out the side of the yucca stalk while burning it in. I was using a section of the stalk that was only 1/2in wide. I'll make a wider one this week but in the mean time I had to settle for an old cedar set.
