Last February me and my colleaque went on a day hike (previous thread) around a swamp nearby. At that trip we noted that there was a nice ready-made camp site a few miles from the nearest forrest road, and decided that we should go to an over-night trip there someday. Last weekend we did just that. Here's a couple of pics, enjoy!

Here's the campsite.

We didn't have tents, so we slept in that wooden shelter. My sleeping bag wasn't really adequate, since the temperature at night was just above freezing, but I got a few hours of sleep, which was plenty for a one-night trip. The rest of the night I just listened to the birds and chilled.

The view from our camp.

Starting a fire.

The firewood was damp, so after getting the fire going, we dried up some firewood around it. That's why the fireplace seems so stacked. And that bottle... ermm... Dunno. Someone must have forgotten it there.

Company

A bird was pretty intrested on who we were, and kept us company the entire evening.

Chilly spring night, and a good fire. What could be better?

The view wasn't bad at night time either.

Another pic of the swamp...

Frog.

This little fella was bathing in the morning sun on a forest road. Wasn't too pleased that we sticked a camera to his face, so we left him alone after taking a few pics.

Here are two more exclusively for all you folks at the BF / WS! J.P. Peltonen, Ranger Puukko. Perfomed flawlessly, as always!

Nice pics, great looking camp! I've eyeballed those Ranger Puukkos a lot, good looking knife!

Thanks for those pics. Looks like a good time, although I hate to be cold at night!
Thats the first time I saw one of those Ranger Pukko`s in use. I`ve seen them at Kellam`s site but never in somebody`s hand.

Is the bevel on that convex or V edge

Thanks.

I am soooooo jealous! Been dying to get out and do some camping/hiking for months now, but instead I have spent day after day in this server room (NO WINDOWS!!!).
Great pictures.

Sigh.... I gotta get a life.

Thanks for you kind comments :) The trip was really relaxing, even though it was only for two days (yeah, I have to stare at a computer screen during office hours too). And while it was too cold to sleep the whole night, I anticipated it... So, I only had my old crappy speeping bag, but I didn't mind. A couple of hours of sleep was enough, and I enjoyed just laying there half the night, listening to the birds waking up and looking at the sunrise :)

kgd, I can take a few pics of the Ranger Puukko and post them here, if u wanna take a closer look?

Great pics. I love seeing what other are experiencing. And I like the look of the knife too.

You call that a 'ready made camp'; here in the USA we call that a Luxury Hotel Room with a view! As far as backpacking goes LOL! Nice pictures thanks!

Great pics bro, that shelter looks great....lot better than lugging a tent around eh !!!!

great pics... that looks like a gorgeous area... i really like that shelter/campsite.... that's very cool..:D

Yeah, in Finland those kind of shelters are referred to as "laavu"s, but the same word translates also to a tarp, so... I just used "shelter". Anyway, there are plenty of these wooden laavus in Finland, free to use by anyone who wants to. There are three of them in that area (~10 mile radius) alone! :) They are well equipped too: this one had 3 axes, a saw, and a bucket for water to put out the fire. During summertime there is also firewood available. Laavus are commonly used for a short break during a dayhike, but it's ok to sleep in them also, if one wants to.

There are also small cabins available, mostly in Lapland though. They are also free to use, but in summer there's a high propability that they are occupied already, so a tent or some sort of a shelter is a necessity anyhow when traveling in those areas.

Anyway, thanks for all the kind comments :) I can see that the images had an... inspirational effect! And that's always a good thing. I myself had such a good time, that I can't wait to go explore that particular area again... the area is big enough for a couple of days more...
