Trip to a Gun/Knife show ends in a new knife and cool encounter.

Is that the acrylic abalone? I've looked at slabs of that and wondered how it would look on a knife.

Nice find!

Abalone with clear acrylic over it to protect it is what the guy said and it seems to be accurate from google search. :D

Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy the spectacle. It's $7 for the best entertainment around, for as long as you can stand it.

The shows around here are $3 admission.

I've been wondering about the looking glass abalone/pearls myself. I love the look of the real deal but only have two tiny knives with it because of the cost. If GEC's acrylic looks that good in hand I may have to think about picking something up... :D

I have a similar gun show story from last month. I got to meet Bruce at the Saxet Show in Austin. It was great to talk to some one who actually appreciated the kind of knives that we do. Don't get me wrong, forums are great and I like it here but talking knives with folks such as yourselves is much more fun in person -- probably because of how much I hate typing!

I was also cool to be able to handle different patterns, see new types of scales, etc before buying and still get to pay internet prices! He had a very impressive display.

I got a sweet deal on an old 08 cigar stockman:

Great story Ash and really nice Powderhorn!! I like that cuban too Tom!!

A drop dead gorgeous knife, Ash.:thumb up:

Love the color and handle shape and the fact that it's a two blade toothpick. If I wasn't so much into the peanut, I could see myself educing that knife.

Carl.

Very cool story and knife Ash. The Abalone covers are striking.:) I like that particular pattern too. It really snugs up in the hand giving the user a solid feel.

Nice knives. I usually detest tootpick patterns, but GEC's definitely done it right and turned it into one of my favorite patterns. Of course, mine isn't as fancy-schmancy as yours. Great pick-up!
