Just got back from a weekend trip the Catskills. Me and two friends did Devil's path loop and a day hike to Kaaterskill falls.

Using the firesteel to get a fire going

Summit view (forget which mountian though)

A rock throne which overlooked a fantastic view. There were several stone chairs, a chimney, a table, and a bench all set up along the trail.

Another summit view

Me checking over the edge of a cliff and thinking how far I could fall if the wind picked up.

Kaaterskills falls. Believe it or not there was a swimming hole between the two waterfalls and we had to check it out. To get an idea of how big the falls were there is a person just to the right of the lower falls. Its the tallest waterfall in NY to my knowledge.

Unfortunately other people knew about it too:( It was deep enough that I could not see or touch the bottom and the water was fairly clear.

Standing under the wallfall was a lot of fun, but sort of painful (Not me in the picture).

Enjoy!

Great pics, the falls look awesome! And that stone throne is sweet, you can survey the land in style.

Great pics man

My wife's family has a house about 10 miles away in Prattsville. Kaaterskil falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in NY. When it doesn't rain for a while its like a trickle.

I love going up there, been awhile though.

Looks like you guys had a great time! Where's the knife porn:D

looks like fun, where's all the knife pron?

So that's where that bacon smell came from the other morning. I live within a couple of miles of the Kaaterskill falls and it's an awesome sight in the spring. Early spring, there is still 40 feet of ice in the clove that you can walk out on or walk behind. Great photos by the way.

Sorry, I took a few pictures of my knives, but none came out well enough to post. But so you know I took my leatherman Core, my F1, and my NWA forum knife.

I like! How many days were you out?

Funny story actually. We left Friday after work and got stuck on I-84 for 2 hours due to a traffic jam so we finally got to an exit and got off and were forced to travel on slower backroads in order to avoid the traffic. Three miles from our destination trailhead, the road had collapsed so we had to take a 10 mile detour. We ended up finally getting on the trail at midnight. So we set up camp right away, then hiked most of the day Saturday and set up camp once we hit a low point so we could hide out from the thunder and rain. Then Sunday we hiked out and did our day hike to Kaaterskill Falls. So all in all we were out two nights.

That is a crazy area: cars pulling u-turns on a windy road once they finally see the trailhead, overflowing the parking lot, and people (including young kids) scrambling up to the falls. That must be an awesome place to live.

Very nice pics. The throne is great; I've seen some strange things on the trail, but nothing like that.

Love the pics. Tried the Devils Path once from Devil's Tombstone. A mile into it, we said why the heck are we punishing ourselves like this, headed back and decided it was Miller Time. Congratulations on perservering! See that you also went to the magic quarry. Awesome place. Did you get a chance to check out the cascades below the dirt road @ the trailhead. Once of my favorite places on earth. so serene it's almost magical, unless there's mosquitos.

Word to the wise: many people have died climbing to the ampitheater on Kaaterskill Falls. Plenty of talus to lose your footing on.
