Trouble opening my Sebenza 25...

Yeah...that's how I fire all my knives with studs, it just has a LOT of pressure before the detent. I found that the easiest way to open it is to have the nail of my thumb push against the stud. It works, but it takes just a bit more time to properly seat my hand/thumb properly. The detent is really strong. I even tried loosening the other two pins/screws....no real difference. Kinda confused because my 21 was a breeze to open. How far in does the lock rest against the blade? Mine looks to be just at about 50%. I am not an expert, but I have a feeling it's the detent. Because after I pass the detent, it glides like butter the rest of the way open. Perhaps this is the way it's supposed to be? If so, I'll just continue to use the top of my thumb nail to open it.

My 25's definitely have more detent than my 21's.
As already mentioned, it does have a break in period. I've also broke them down, cleaned and applied fresh lube, that has helped.

Ya know, looking at it much closer....I realized that the lock is super super strong and it puts a great deal of pressure against the blade. I think that the excessive pressure that is being pushed on the bottom of the blade might be the reason why it's so hard to open. I thought about maybe pushing the lock/frame to the side and inserting a small folded piece of paper and leave it in there for a little while to perhaps lighten the pressure being pressed against the blade? I dono...just an idea. I have been playing with it for a good two days opening and closing it...wife was getting annoyed at the constant clicking sound...lol. I love the knife...my guess is this is the way it's supposed to be. My 21 was far easier to open...but like the 25 better as it's a bit more of a work horse. Ugh...

My 25 was somewhat stiff to open when I first got it. But after opening and closing it for a few months, no more than 100 times, it broke in nicely. I have not disassembled it, but I might have put a drop of Breakfree in the pivot. Now the detent feels just right. Give it some time. Good luck.

Yeah....I must have opened and closed it about a thousand times. I really think it's the frame lock putting so much pressure on the base of the blade. I put a small folded piece of paper in there pushing the lock open...gonna leave it in overnight and see how it looks tmro. I'll chime back....thx again fellas!

Regarding lock bar tension, I can break the detent on my 25 by positioning my thumb on the jimping, index finger on the opposite side of the handle just above the stop pin (so thumb and index finger are 180 degrees apart across the pivot), and simply pushing upward with the thumb (of course keep the other three fingers off the lock bar). I'm not sure if my lock bar tension is unusually light but the blade is impossible to shake open and it locks up bank vault solid at 50%. I don't open the knife this way as it requires repositioning my thumb to the side of the thumb stud to sweep the blade the rest of the way open. I'd guess you can do the same if your lock bar tension is normal.
