Hey guess I had an old Norton hudson bay hatchet head that i finally got around to making a handle for. I'm going for a artistic look but with also with a functional aspect. i just turned a handle that im very proud of out of some old cedar my question is right now i have the handle fit to the eye but have a almost collar around the eye. By this i mean the handle does not taper but the head sits on wood with the handle going into it. I was wondering if this is a problem for real use... say if it might be prone to breaking. Thanks in advance for any advice if you need more help visualizing it i can try.

P.S. After the head is fit (depending on your advice some alterations made) I am going to put a french polish on the handle then polish the head to a mirror finish.) if you guys can help i'll post pictures when it is done. sorry if this seemed to ramble on unnecessarily
