RANT on

Just curious if anyone else that has dealt with Marking methods has had poor service, treated in a rude manner.

3 days ago i sent MM a email with my art work, well days later no response nothing.

The last time they did this is it was only when I sent a email to management that I got a response and the product I needed.

This time same BS email to management all of a sudden I start getting emails, one of the email was all in caps which I take it the person was yelling at me?

One other thing if you send them your art work complete in a adobe vector file exactly perfect and in the exact size you need why do they charge you a art fee?

I am really bummed out with 4-5 stencils on file it would cost a few dollors to go elsewhere.

Last time I received a call from a concerned manager this time I may request a new area rep or just go somewhere else

RANT off

Thanks
Spencer

They are not very happy with me after our last transaction. They emailed me the finished artwork for my approval and it looked good so I OKed it but it was at full screen size, when I recieved my stencils I couldnt read my own name. I complained and finally got them to stretch it out so its legable. They have a minimum order amount too so when its time to buy more electrolyte I had to buy 2 bottles.

I can make my own stencils now but the special paper they use is something I would like to get my hands on. The blue mylar stuff in my kit is not near the quality.

Electrolyte?? Forget it. Just use salt water. Save some bucks. Try it. Rinse with clear water and clean up with very fine sandpaper after etching.

Also, I have found, quite by accident, that if you insulate yourself from the knife (hold the piece with something like several layers of paper towel or whatever) you'll get a much better etch. Clearer and deeper. Previously I was holding the tang with my bare hand and apparently using some of the power needed for the etch. I was getting an etch, but not very good.

I cant remember the Lady's name at lectroetch, but She was very nice and sent images back to me several times till We got the size right. They seemed to appreciate my small amount of business.

Oh and salt water does NOT give the same results as the proper eletrolyte in my experience. You do get a deep etch if that's what you are after. But a nice clean black etch...nope.

Bruce, I was turned onto this place from some other knife makers they may chime in. I called them today and spoke with a guy name Eric.... he took the time to explain how they work, price's, stencil material, chemicals it was a drastic change to what I have had to deal with from MM.

Here are the facts they are cheaper than any other company I have spoke with, they temper there stencil material so it last longer?, they have no minimum order, you can speak with a very nice person, they respond to your emails. They do not charge you a art fee if your art work is done.

I have a lot of plates over at marking methods so Eric made me a great deal he would make all my stencil plates plates and only charge me half of the normal fee which is 22.00 per sheet charge is 13.00

MM never returns my emails, always treats me and some others I know like shit, they charge me an art fee even if my art work is done and in the exact file they use WTF, the minimum order sucks.

So with out a doubt I am changing over to this company, it worth the peace of mind.

www.tustech.com Eric is the guy to speak to

MM are dickheads. They make great product, but they have been absolute wankers to so many knifemakers that they don't deserve any of our business.

Several years ago I got pissed at them and did a study (posted on Mickley's website nowadays) of all the major stencil makers. My testing suggested the three places that had the best stencils were MM, IMG, and TUS Tech. A number of guys up in the Boston area have subsequently gone to TUS Tech with excellent results.

The one thing I would caution you about your new stencils, Spencer, is that they seem more "transparent" to current than what you have been using. They etch faster, and that results in more heat, rapidly. You will probably find that you need to use shorter "strike times" so you don't fry the stencil and crinkle it. The burgundy-colored jobbies they sent me cut as crisp a stencil as anything else I received.

You made a good choice, and it's cool they went the extra mile with the artwork discount to get your business.

Did I mention that MM are dickheads to deal with? :D
