Trout and trail

Son of a... I'm so jealous!!! At first I didn't think you were gonna post any fish pics, but I knew you'd come through for me.

Three different species?! That is a good day fishing.

Haven't made my first trout trip yet this year, so I'm totally itching to go now that you posted those pics! Well, memorial day is just around the corner...

Oh man, you have no idea how badly those pictures are making my soul ache for some trout fishing.

Looks good, I fillet all of my trout and cut the bones out, that's the only way my daughter would eat fish, she loves them that way but she does not want to see a bone. We are almost at Ice out here, but not quite.

There is not a prettier fish than a trout. I caught two a few years back , at a trout park. I had to cheat. I used cheese for bait..

That's cool, I've only seen the pure white trilliums up here.

Looks like that Fiddleback performed admirably! I'm not surprised, it's a great design. Trout... yum!! I like them grilled pretty much like you described, but with lemon and onions inside and bacon wrapped round the outside, then the foil. You can pretty much throw away the bacon when they're done, all the flavor cooks into the fish.

Great pics buddy, wish I coulda joined ya at the table for those fish !!!

That is definitely a Trout Lily, shame if it's true that the bulbs can make ya sick because I have Tiger Lilies over here and their bulbs are pretty good to eat !!!

I was just repeating what I read in the Peterson Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants.

I re-checked and it says:

"The very young leaves can be boiled for 10 - 15 minutes and served with vinegar. The deeply burried bulb-like corms can be boiled for 20 - 25 minutes and served with butter. ~ Warning: Trout lilly may be mildly emetic."

I'm sure they won't kill you but I'd hold off on eating them if there is other wild edibles available.

Day Lillys or Tiger Lillys would be a better choice if available.

great pics, your pics turned out better on a cellphone than most people's camera pics!!!!!

Thanks guys.

Bob, that was the Saugutuck River in Redding. Parked on RT 53 by the Reed middle school.

Sorry for the crappy pics, all I had was my cellphone camera..

Your cellphone takes great pictures.

Forgive me GP, I'm still learning....

Forgive you for what???? We're all still learning. Once you stop learning, it means you're dead, or at least it should.

When you get a chance, post a couple of pictures of that Trout Lily lookalike.

lakes here (and i'm not tellin' where) 2 1/2 pound brooks are the norm. the largest i've ever caught was 21''. a little over 3.2 lbs.. they are an evasive species here (bucket biologist), so are not looked upon so well. catch, cook, eat. they forage on the same foods as the western cutthrout so the need to be eliminated. they are actually poisoning dozens of lakes in western mt because of those little basterds. along with the rainbows in high mountain lakes because they can interbreed with the WCT causing genetic pollution.

Its really not that much of a look alike, now that I realize what a Trout Lilly looks like... Just the coloration is similar, and after furter review I fgured out what it is:o

not my pic..

Its just the SkunK Cabbage at an early stage. I didn't know they had that Green and purple coloration. I know, I'm a dumbass....

Awesome pics, especially for a cell phone:thumbup:

Nice catch, the fish and the knife. I hope to get out for some rainbows in the next week or so. Our season is a bit behind/late this year, damn winter does not want to go away:grumpy:
I did talk to someone and found a small piece of river close to where I live for specks later in the season...I plan to hit that area for sure.

Love fish and knife pics!
