The first knife is just a hair shy of 9" and is made from a piece of Texas Flint and hafted to an Elk antler handle.
This flint is a lot harder to work than the obsidian so I'm going to have to ask a little more for it in order to give me the incentive to make another.

9 " Texas Flint - $old Shipped to US.
International will be an additional $5 to cover extra shipping charges.

"These Knives are all hand knapped by myself, Teddy R Pruitt.
I started knapping at the age of 13 and have now been knapping off and on for around 14 years.
All my knives are satisfaction guaranteed!

for those of you who want to know about obsidian , check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian
and this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knapping

Now, let it be known that Obsidian, being a natural "glass" can be very sharp,
but also very brittle. So this is not a type of blade you would want for everyday use (that's what all the quality steel blades listed on this site are for) but should be considered "collectible art pieces" reminiscent of the stone age, before man learned the superior properties of iron and steel.

All the blades are hafted to a whitetail antler handle, using high strength epoxy and artificial sinew. I do not offer a sheath, as you will most likely put this in your display case anyways"

Hello Again!

I will take the 9" Texas Flint for $100 USD as I live in Canada. It will go nicely with the gold obsidian and snowflake obsidian I bought from you a short time ago.

Could you send me you PayPal info.

I like the look of your knives. Just a quick question, are they for use or display? If use, what type of use do you recommend besides cutting? I worry that the brittleness of the material will lead towards breakage and I don't own a single knife I don't use.

You can use them as much as the Aztec priests used them to cut the heart out of sacrificial victims. The are brittle and won't take any torque forces. Sharp enough though. A friend dressed a whitetail with one last year. Be careful though.

Tony, yes they are brittle and you probably wouldn't want one to use unless you're an extreme traditionalist.
But like drducati said, it never stopped the Aztecs. :) or any of the Native Americans who used stone knives for centuries. They would use them carefully, eventually wear them out or break them, and make a other one.

So, really not very practical and nowadays mostly for collecting and displaying....
They've had their place in history, now it's time to admire them on the shelf...
hmm ... kinda like an old man who could get down there and throw hay with the youngsters
but knows he might break something if he wasn't careful. So he just takes to displaying himself
on the front porch in his rocking chair :D (no offense to any old guys out there... I'm just sayin')
