for those of you who want to know about obsidian , check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian
and this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knapping

Now, let it be known that Obsidian, being a natural "glass" can be very sharp,
but also very brittle. So this is not a type of blade you would want for everyday use (thats what all the quality steel blades listed on this site are for) but should be considered "collectible art pieces" reminescent of the stone age, before man learned the superior properties of iron and steel.

All the blades are hafted to a whitetail antler handle, using high strength epoxy and artificial sinew. I do not offer a sheath, as you will most likely put this in your display case anyways.

there is about 3/4" tang hafted into the handle with epoxy. These are stone blades and would not benefit from a full tang.

Teddy I have in interest in #55 and I am somewhat familiar with knapping I actually considered getting into it at one point. I have two questions:

Is that point in the antler awkward feeling in the hand? While I would likely never use it in anywhere (although I know of people who have skinned deer with them). I still don't like any knife that would feel strange in the hand with regards to the handle.

I also know that a good knapped knife can have an edge sharper than a surgeon scalpel. Did you do these to the point that they are shaving sharp?

The handle feels good to me... gotta kinda hook your thumb over the point. These knives are made as display pieces, that's really the only reason I left that tine on there. It allows the knife to stand up when resting on a flat surface. I can always sand it off for you if you'd like.
The edge is sharp, but not shaving sharp. It is not possible to achieve a shaving edge with this style of knapping. Those surgical scalpels are made from one big smooth flake which does have an amazingly sharp razor edge.

I'll take these two.
