Permalyn works well on gunstocks, for sure.It is very thin and really soaks in.
I can't say that "spar" means much anymore. Originally it meant marine grade (for use on spars) today--who knows? :grumpy:
Minwax Tung Oil finish is another good one that is a penetrating finish. At one point I bought Damar Varnish, boiled linseed oil and pure Turpentine at an art supply store to make gunstock finish. Talk about pricey! But you know what you have, at least.
