Truck Stop Knives Rule (apparently)

They definitley earn a lot. Much more than some good quality manufacturers, because of the quantity.

I just don't understand the people buying stuff like before mentioned Mutilator knife or Z-hunters...
I mean not only that the knives are of rather poor quality, but the designs are also often opposite from functional, and the overall look of those knives is such that you'll get very strange looks if you ever pull them out in front of anyone regardless of reason why you pulled them out, and that's with a good reason. I mean it's worth questioning why you even own such thing, I get that someone might buy it just for the sake of it, and to make fun of it, but if you use one for EDC that's kinda concerning. Not to mention that cops will definitley want to have talk with you if they ever see you with one, and I completley understand why. And if they do then, well... you had it coming.

Mutilator is perfect example of mall-ninja knife. And the name of that knife itself is enough to put you behind bars if you ever use it for self-defense, yet the design alone just screams "look at me"...

Also, I was at the gas station yesterday, and I saw that they sell Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate knife... the name itself is OK until you come to the word "Ultimate" and then I went to Google, YouTube and Amazon to see some of the reviews, and reviews are terrible, and the knife itself seems to be rather terrible too, yet it costs 20€ which is such a rip-off for such a terrible knife...

Yep. Bear Grylls put his name on the Gerber line of junk knives and Les Stroud put his name on the Camillus line of knives. Dave Canterbury put his name on the ESEE line which are actually very good knives for the money. From a Survival standpoint, I put Stroud up there with the best of them. Grylls, not so much and Canterbury is a good teacher IMHO. Anyway, both of those lines of knives are made in China IIRC and the ESEE is still made here in the U.S.A. I wouldn't buy any one of the Chicom models.

Maybe, but another member had a good point. What about ESEE or Buck? 10 gas station knives at $10.00 each or 1 nice ESEE at $100.00?

I honestly love to watch Bear Grylls shows... and before doing research I actually wanted to get Bear Grylls knife!
Thankfully I watched reviews and decided to go with some other brand instead.

That is a hard one. It depends on manifacturing costs too, numbers of sold units, also investing in marketing...

It also makes me wonder... Fallkniven costs fortune in my country, yet they seem to be popular here. People buy them.
At other hand, I literally got Recon Tanto (SK-5) and Drop Forged Hunter (52100) for 17€ less than cost of 1 Fallkniven F1.

I get that high price often means high quality, but such prices seem just excessive to me personally.
But yes, it is personal preference. There's a guy collecting Tac-Force and Z-hunter knives who thinks I'm crazy for buying Cold Steel knives at price tags around 50€, since he buys 10 knives for that money...

the nice thing about that drop forged hunter in 52100, it's one of the best 'all around' choices, for any survival/bush/wilderness perspective

very tough, very good edge retention & relatively easy to sharpen even on rocks

I will say I’ve had a fair experience with trash knives from the gas station (or Amazon station, to be precise), and they were neat. I was never into the fLaShy rAinBow BS or whatever, I preferred the more serious and realistic knives that serve purpose. But there is a huge HUGE notable difference between a normal looking functional, but cheap, Tac-Force and an Inexpensive RAT2, or Buck 110, or Civivi, Ganzo, etc. these cheap crappy garbage knives have appeal because they’re cheap and to one who knows no better, they function. Until the terrible heat treat, poor steel, poor FF come to bite a few uses later. Education is key, and teaching others about what a real worthwhile knife is is what matters. And the fact such a knife can lie literally 10$ higher (peep Kabar folding Hunter or Kabar Dozier. Or Ganzo.) there’s so many better options out there that are inexpensive that there’s no excuse to buy these trash cheap knives, or supply them. In my opinion.

I wouldn't pay a cent for Ganzo.

It's not because it's Chinese, it's because they are making knock-offs of other well known brands.
And because their knives are still kinda bit crappy...

There are many good Chinese brands that offer good value for the money without copying other manufacturers.
