Hi guys,

So, personally I find this season to be one big gigantizoid disappointment compared to last season (we can discuss those particulars later if any fans are interested) but the last episode did give us some cool knife action (though McAdams, the character in question, was putting what appeared to be a partially-serrated Griptilian through some training paces I might not have done, even with an Axis lock.

Not related to the episode specifically, she has what appears to be a karambit in a boot sheath. I'm not really an expert or follower of these knives, I just have a cheap United Cutlery one for giggles. Anyone know if it is anything good? It appears to have 2 rings and I've never seen good karambits with that feature.

As to the specific episode (spoilers follow and I'm not sure we have a spoiler tag as we aren't a movie forum)

She was undercover as a rather high class hooker and, as her sister mentioned, they wouldn't let her take anything, including knives, with her, and she'd be searched on entry. During an altercation, he did pull one out, however. Given the nature of her, ahem, wardrobe and the high security, anyone know how she hid it? Was it cutlery found inside the mansion and I just missed when she grabbed it? Just curious.

There was a brief scene where she grabbed a knife off one of the tables. Ditto on how disappointing this season is.

Compared to last season this one is very bad.

The cast is good, the writing is horrible.

I saw on Benchmade's Facebook page that they supplied an Auto Presidio, but the producers specifically asked for an auto Presidio WITH thumb studs. I don't know why but that was straight from BM.

It's a Cold Steel Double Agent with a modified sheath

This blade was designed as a lightweight neck knife, but the script called for boot carry.
The sheath was fitted with an aftermarket clip (a Nite Ize clip designed for cell phones that locks in place - very cool) and was then modified by removing the retention ring

We are rarely involved in the placement of product in movies or TV shows and it's often just as much of a surprise to us as it is our fans, but in this case we were asked for this specific knife for this specific character.

We also spotted an old school Culloden neck knife and a Safe Keeper push dagger in the show
There are a lot of blades this season!

It's been interesting for us here at Cold Steel as much of the show was filmed in or around our city.

Thanks Cold Steel, that is awesome.

These aftermarket clips, can they be fitted to a variety of different sheathes for this sort of "cell phone" like carry, do you know? Thanks.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. If there is a season 3, I will look forward to it in the hopes the show might get back to its roots.

One of the many problems I have with the show (again, spoilers, but I guess if you scroll this far into the thread, you're likely watching the show already)

Is that: the murder (and solving it) seem secondary or perhaps even tertiary to everything else. In season 1, the impetus to solve the murder was merged perfectly with interpersonal drama, and life and family problems, I thought. Here the focus is on the latter, not so much the former. It's almost like they needn't even be cops, or detectives at all. Another problem that comes along with this is, personally, I have no reason whatsoever to even care about the victim or the solving of the case. I don't even remember the guy's name half the time. No one on the force seems particularly interested in solving his murder, beyond maybe "uncovering some corruption" and we don't have any friends, family members, or anyone mourning his passing or helping us care that he was killed at all.

Sad to say, but there is genuine interest in solving murders of poor innocent girls, and not so much this wallflower city official. That's how I kinda feel about it.

That said, no reflection on the cool knives, and congrats to BM and Cold Steel for getting some products in there. Good show or bad, I like to see cool knives in my TV.

Like you said way too much personal drama and other assorted BS this season.

They kept it smaller and contained last season (and gave us a plethora of pretty cool one-liners, I thought.)

This season they shove too much into it, and most of the dialogue is stupid or forgettable.

And although they provided a semi-plausible explanation for the 3 main cops to keep working together (and constantly change it up who goes with whom for the day) it's another wtf moment for me. 2 will spend all of 5 minutes with each other, and suddenly later that day, one of those is swapped out for the third. It's weird.

I would totally love to hear a recap from someone who missed the whole scene where she grabbed the knife and walked down the hall with it in the small of her back. Who knows what else you missed that you can discuss.

This isn't season one; trying to make it just like season one wouldn't have worked. It's a different location & pace, different characters & motives. We don't know if the crimes are different yet.

I am enjoying it as much as I did the first one and my only let down is the first one I watched on demand so I could go from start to end in a few days. Now that it's only on once a week I have to wait out for the next episode.

Yes, very strange this year.

Bad writing.

It almost like they just loaded up the cast with good actors and had the writing done by some 10 YO kids for something.

I did read that the head writer for last season had a bit of a falling out. If so, this could have affected this season.

I'm not really attempting to give a "total recap" but your light-hearted snark is something I will choose to appreciate rather than deride. ;)

Yes, unless you are not up to speed on the latest episode (seems like you are) we are fully aware that the crimes are very different, both in motive and nature. That's one of the few points the show has made clear.

Of course it isn't season one, that's also obvious. But this is a risk with anthology type series (which in general I appreciate.) Not all are going to be as good as the others. BUT, the next season has every potential to be much better.

If you are enjoying it as much as the first one, good for you.

It's like a really bad low budget movie.

I agree, but I'll stick it out for the knives and, like I said to the other poster, as it is an anthology series, if a season 3 comes along, it has every chance to be better in every way, even more so than the first. Every chance to be worse, too, but that is the double-edged sword that is anthologies.

It would be hard for it to be worse than this year. ;)

In some ways, I feel perhaps expectations for this season might have been too high (mine were certainly very high). That doesn't excuse poor storytelling, and with the series creator on board (clearly attempting to address some of the few problems fans had with last season, but not doing so great with it) and as you note, a usually fantastic group of actors, it's a seriously weird season. Something which I don't think should be taken as offensive by fans of the season, but that's just me.

And I don't want to jinx it, Jim, but they could make it worse next season.

Adam Sandler and Queen Latifah might get the lead roles. :P
