I ordered a knife that stated US shipping was free, yet when I went to check out, there was no option for the free shipping. In the comments section I stated that I felt this was false advertising. I received an email from Neil saying he felt this was an insult and that my order as cancelled. He stated that the home page clearly stated that I needed to use a coupon code to get the free shipping. The problem is, that I searched for the maker, and I never saw the main page. I feel that this isa deceptive way to do business.

Sounds about normal for many online sales codes. I'd not describe it as deceptive at all. It's a marketing tool to get people to bookmark a website and visit occasionally. Perhaps if the issue had been address in a more polite manner, you may have had a more positive experience. Accusations of false advertising right off will set a website owner on the defense and they may not react in the manner you hope for.

I like the way online companies that do not have an item in stock, always show a ridiculously low price compared to their competitors, that do have it in stock.

You are right. I was too sarcastic because of my frustrations.

I am not arguing your experience, but anything I have seen from TNK that had free shipping, also had a coupon code to enter to get that 'free' shipping.

It is always very clearly stated when you click on the main page for that particular item.

I am fairly certain you need a 'code' otherwise the automated check out system will charge you shipping.
If these codes where not unique, then you could enter it for any knife and get 'free' shipping......

All my experiences with TNK have been positive, which is not to say that he is perfect. The site may not have shown the code for free shipping as conveniently as it should. I find that a common problem with many sites that rely on discount codes and coupons but send them by email etc and the onus is on you to find it and enter it. Not great, but not really "deceptive". Anybody can react badly to being called deceptive or something similar and once his or her back is up, fuggetaboutit.
Sometimes it's best to be civil and patient even if you have a valid reason to complain. Common sense really.

That's not to minimize the frustration etc., but if you give TNK/Neil a chance in my experience it does pay off.

I agree with most here that this is not false advertising or even deceptive. I've been through your experience and had to backtrack for a code. No big deal.

I i'm traveling home to Denver as I write this with very limited access to any communication however several friends have sent me this link on my phone.

I'll be at the Blade show later this week so after I finish that I guess I will have to come in here and defend myself showing the emails that I sent to this gentleman explaining to him after the fact that the free shipping coupon information was clearly indicated in four different places on the website.
No website is absolutely perfect in and I'm not perfect so things happen. We offer free shipping on every single item over $99 that we carry. The coupon code we use is a very simple one as well. FREESHIPPING.

Occasionally people will misspell the code or put a space in between free & shipping and that will result in the code not working and the shipping is charged. In every single case (except this one) we receive a phone call or text or email or private message regarding this and we immediately refund the shipping paid in error.

I buy everything online myself and have made a mistake with a coupon code and calmly and politely got it rectified.

I never attacked the vendor by calling them deceitful and saying that we hid the code to delibetly trap them.

The OP also selected our most expensive shipping box for Alaska and Hawaii instead of conus for $18.00 even though he wanted the item shipped to Michigan.

And before another bashing starts we do ship for free to all states including AK and HI.

Our free shipping is not by crappy cheap mail either (unless the customer insists). We use Fedex Ground/Home with tracking and insurance - all for FREE.

I will be exhibiting at the BLADE Show in Atlanta from 6/3 - 6/5. My table number is 3BB.

I hope to see many of you and shake hands- unless of course you feel like the OP that after almost 20 years in this business that I stay up at night scheming and plotting to deceive and rip off the very people who provide me with a living

Best regards. Neil @ TNK

Glad you jumped in Neal. I've only had good experiences with buying from the site. Mike

This sounds like a misunderstanding, I make mistakes and glad I am not alone in the world.
If anyone has anything else to add, let me know.
Neil has been good to go in my book.
