Old school vs phantom?

Yeeaaah, that is a little vague.

You know how the old perfects have the bevels that are part of the forged shaped? They actually protrude. All the newer axes with bevels that I have seen (including the Council) appear to have these "phantom bevels." They just take a head that has been forged with flat sides and grind little crescent shaped indentations in them. I read a review that said the bevels where even uneven on the axe he received.

Actually here's the review. It's pretty good and in depth, but the site is woefully hard to navigate, so I'll give you all three parts of the review here. This is for the Council Tool Jersey Classic:

Part 1: http://thesharpenedaxe.blogspot.com/search?q=jersey+classic&updated-max=2010-12-14T16%3A05%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=20
Part 2: http://thesharpenedaxe.blogspot.com/2010/12/council-tool-jersey-axe-part-2-by-bmatt.html
Part 3: http://thesharpenedaxe.blogspot.com/2010/12/council-tool-jersey-classic-axe-review.html

EDIT:
I had the link for Part 2 screwed up. It is fixed now. This is a three part review and an interesting blog.

The bevels on the current Barco "Perfects" look more sustantial than Council's phantom bevels.

I got this one on e 'bay. Cleaned it up, sharpened, and put a new handle on it. It's worked real well for me in clearing trails. Got the handle from hickory handle store but may put a straight 30" one on this winter. Kelly perfects are on there you just have to keep at it.
