i'm curious to hear what you guys keep in your trunks or the back of your trucks.

i have a complete PSK & BOB in my trunk along with any type of emergency gear i feel i could need.

this is a very general list as i really keep to much back their to list it all.

PSK:
i have a MAXPEDITION VERSIPACK that is just loaded to the breaking point with every type of PSK gear one could ever imagine.

BOB in general...pack used is a TACTICAL TAILOR 3-DAY w/MOLLE pouches

survival & first aid manuals and a bible.i figure if it hits the fan it may comfort me as it has in the past.
quality machete & hatchet
quality folder & leatherman
GLOCK fixed blade knife
fire making kit
first aid kit
cooking kit
water filter
2-3 water containers {canteen,nalgene}
high energy foods {nuts,power bars,granola bars}
rain gear
USGI rubber water proof bags
garbage bags,zip-lock bags,ALOK-SAK bags,zip-ties and 550 cord
hygiene kit
boonie hats,mosquito nets & gloves
2 sleeping bags {varies depending on the season obviously}

MISC. GEAR

in case i came upon an accident or any other reason i wanted some heavy duty, hard core steel in the back.for that i keep a RANGER KNIVES ENTRY TOOL & SCRAPYARD KNIVES YARD HOOK both made of S7 steel.i feel i could cut or chop through anything metal or other wise with this combo.

i always have an extra folder or small fixed blade up front with me and i have a RANGER RD-4 stashed under the bask seat.

i keep local maps of my surrounding area and maps of the state and country.

in case i wasnt wearing the appropriate footwear or clothing at the time i keep an extra pair of GOR-TEX boots and seasonal clothing in the trunk.

quality flashlight {surefire 6P LED w/ plenty of spare batts:

empty gas can,a few quarts of oil and necessary tools to do basic maintenance on the vehicle in the field {jumper cables,oil change,spare tire ect.}

water bottles

i am lucky that their is no trunk release for my car from inside the cabin and my rear seats do not fold down.one could break the window though, unlock the all the doors from the inside and then proceed to go to the trunk and open it with the trunk release hatch located on the trunk itself.

lucky for me the it is an electrical push button device so i just unplugged the main wire so the only way into my trunk is with the key plain and simple unless you just rip the thing off.

this is the only way i would carry so much money worth of gear everywhere i go.

I drive a Jeep Wrangler and at this time I have no secure way of storing my gear in the vehicle. Looks like your ready for just about anything:thumbup:, all you need is a rifle and ammo in case of a zombie outbreak:D.

Well I have a VW California with all the camping goodies you might feel in need off. I even had an inverter installed so I could run my angle grinder... :D. I think I am all set.

I live in the suburbs, and I rarely go anyplace where I couldn't find help with just a phone call or a short (hour or less) walk. But just in case of a bad weather breakdown I keep an "unplanned overnight in the car" kit in the trunk.

In a 3-gal Rubbermaid storage container, I have food, water, space blankets, signaling gear (flashlight, whistle), sanitation (tp, wipes and Purell) and some odds and ends for making fire and shelter should things get really bad.

That and some basic "car" stuff, like jumper cables, spare fluids for the car, kitty litter, a shovel... (some of which can be dual use in an emergency).

Inside the car I have 2 more flashlights, one little one for map reading and one big one for things like seeing what I'm doing should I need to change a tire- I've used it that way before. Need a FAK, but I'm still researching that. I usually have a very little one with me, but nothing extra in the car right now.

nothing. I live in the Lower Mainland of BC, the crime capital of (for theft) of North America. You cannot even leave a pop can inside the cab of the truck without some methhead fuggering up your locks or smashing your window to get it.

No way am i going to leave $1000+ worth of sweet gear in my truck.

when i go on the road /hwy away form here though i tend to pack gear though.

I carry a Get-home-bag containing the following.
cook kit
tarp
rope
freeze dried meal
whistle
ferro-rod/fatwood combo
change of clothes
emergency blanket
full survival kit (stored in the cook pot, a german mess kit. Love this combo)
esbit stove/fuel tabs
water
canteen
iodine tabs
first aid kit (small, want a larger one)
maps (need bordering states)
headlamp/batteries
notepad/pencil (write-in-the-rain type)
baby wipes
toilet paper
Cold Steel shovel (dont' carry this in the Get-home-bag, just keep it in the trunk).

I also have a VOK (Ventilated Operaters Kit). It's a really neat, small blowout kit. I ccw daily and want to be prepared.

Funny Bushman I was just over in Prac-Tac talking about how going to the ground for fighting is probably not a good idea in the lower east side of Vancouver as you are likely to get stuck by a needle. Saskatchewan has a very high crime rate but really stupid and lazy criminals compared to BC. If they can't see it or easily hammer it open with a rock it is safe here. A meth head is like superJunkie.

Currently I keep my CamelBak MULE which is my 72-hr pack in the back seat of my Silverado. I also have my ghetto hatchet and machete a tarp, a gallon of water, a rain suit, a jacket, rubber boots, and a shotgun with about 20 shells. Of course, I also have all the 'truck' stuff fluids, chain, rope, etc. This is basically my 'Get Home' or "GTHOD" set-up.

A wool blanket.

Small socket/wrench set.

Jump starter, that also has an air pump built in, and a light.

Most importantly, I always take my cell phone, and my AAA card.

I don't know how you guys carry so much crap in your cars/trucks. How do you ever have room for anything when you go on a trip? Maybe it doesn't take up as much room as I think...

Dude...most of what is carried is stuff you will probably need on a trip eventually. I do it simply because I don't allow people to ride in the back seat of my truck. The way I have established this list is through careful 'research.' I keep a note pad in the truck and a few note cards in my pack. As I use them, I do 2 things; 1. I write down what I used so that it can be replenished before the next trip and 2. I write down new things I thought of while out and about as well as things I don't think I need to carry. Also, most of this gear doesn't take up too much space at all. You see how most of us compact our gear down to maximize smaller packs and such. Same in the car.

I keep my stuff in plastic totes as well. I have a secure toolbox in the truck for work stuff, so it makes sense to pack spares as well since I'm always carrying tools anyway. I pack spares of all the consumables I've had to replace in the last year or so thanks to buying double when I do filter changes, fluids, lamps, etc. Once I pick up a couple spare U-joints and a clutch slave kit, then anything that I don't have the means to fix probably means the truck's not gonna get me out anyway.

My float tube stuff is in a tote, camp stuff in another, recovery gear, etc. I can just grab the one I need and chuck it in the back - no dedicated truck kit per se, but the bases are still covered. If I found myself in a situation where I had to do a mental inventory of what I had, I think I'd be doing pretty well while still keeping the space available for building materials (the day job).

The extra spare tire and jerrican give me the range to get really lost, which is sort of the point lol.

A cell phone's not much good here unless you stick to the coastline highway, but I carry an ICOM handheld vhf as a backup because the mountains overlook the water so you can always see (and communicate with) boats.

If I have some time to kill I'll take the dog up into the bush (usu spontaneously) for a good run so I just keep the camelback in the truck all the time - loaded with 3L water, basic gear/food and a frisbee for the dog. I guess that's a BOB of sorts.

Bushman's not exaggerating about theft from vehicles. I actually started using the totes because it was easier to unload the truck each night and reload it in the morning that way. The crime is part of the reason the missus and I sought out greener pastures (just WAY too many people).
For a while I drove a tour bus through the Downtown Eastside early in the mornings (locals: right past Oppenheimer Park driving between the two cruise ship terminals) and the passengers ALWAYS commented on it. It looked like a "next morning" scene from a zombie movie...

Even so, it's pretty spectacular for a city of 2 million.

I drive off road a lot like above. So the back of the blazer has a full set of tools (I've replaced a wheel bearing off road), hi lift jack, chains (not tire), tow straps, air compressor (tires only), the usually stocked 'get home bag', freeze dried food, water, backpack stove, mess kit, (basically enough to live for a week or so), extra engine fluids, lagre hand saw, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember right now.

But I'm prepared for lots of situations. :o:p

tools, (92 pontiac so they are to keep murphy away)
hit-me vest, I had to work on my car at night in fog once, not doing that again without being seen,
Fire extinguisher (after the main wireing harness in my jetta went up in flames)
during winter, warm cloths, boots, cat heater, whisperlite international stove, basic survival stuff
lots of water, usually a flat of small bottles, never know in alberta if you will be freezing or baking.
and since my car hardly has a trunk to begin with, meh, I just hope that if someone wants to break in they just open the door and not go for the window. the gaping hole where the stereo should be is my theft deterrent.

I want one of these.

But seriously, I carry an ice chest with a ratchet strap holding the lid on.
Inside is:
Various hand tools
Air compressor
Flares
tow straps
folding shovel
wd40
belt dressing
extra belts
wire dry spray
duct tape
blanket
thats all I can think of now but I think there is more in there.

Any pics of the stuff in the back? I recently bought a Blazer similar to that one (2004) and I've got lots of stuff in mine but it's pretty much just thrown in there:o

i keep the PSK and a good amount of other gear under the floor of the trunk where the spare tire is located so that it is out of the way,not hogging all of my trunk space and i would hope a crack head might not look under their.

the rest is just in a 3-day pack in the trunk which doesnt really take up much room at all.

i dont live in the city anymore so i can do this and my vehicle is safe at work with guards patrolling the parking lots.

its when my car is parked on a dirt road in the absolute middle of nowhere that i worry about a break in.they can get pretty rowdy out there and its not like anybody ids there to see them.

so when i go somewhere like that camping or hiking i just take the 3-day pack with the majority of the gear and throw it in the garage till i get back.

i can see where having a truck would be to a disadvantage in this one scenario, other than that i would much rather have a truck.

I used to carry a bunch of gear (ie a well stocked BOB/PSK) in the small area behind my seat in the cab...this was until someone stole my catalytic converter while I was at night school. Now I just keep the basics (i.e. stuff that i won't be too broken up about if it is stolen):

JACK
30 min road flares
Water
Wool blanket
Jumper cables
Rope
Hatchet
Folding shovel
Flashlight.
Medium crow bar (within reach so I can smash the window/dash for egress)

I keep my leatherman in my bag that goes with me everywhere. I live in quasi-rural suburbia so my worst case scenario would be a long walk in frigid conditions. I add some cold weather gear and boots during winter monthes. Obviously if i'm going on and extended trip hunting/camping I carry more gear: rifles, shotguns, ammo etc.... I have been toying with the Idea of buying a marlin papoose .22 LR to keep in there too...but I would worry about it getting stolen on campus.

It's a sad state of affairs but I'm with ya bro, there is no way I dare leave anything of value in my car !!!:(

I guess keeping just a backpack wouldn't be too bad, and like you said, it would probably be stuff I'd be taking on a trip anyways. The only thing I would worry about is someone breaking in and stealing your bag, that a lot money to replace, or do you guys take it out of your car everytime, and use it kinda like a day bag?

Notepad's a great idea, I should do that.
