Listen, I am aware of the CS haters, heck I used to be one... I watched those promos and "proof" vids and though, "yeah and ole Lynn is grabbing a new knife everytime he cuts through something"... I still believe that to some degree...
I also realize there's a few vids on youtube here and there of a trailmaster failing or whatnot, but has anyone actually had one fail on here under normal use???
I only ask b/c I found myself fondling a recon scout and so I bought it, I beat myself up b/c I hate seeing Taiwaan stamped on the blade... bummer, then I actually started using it and thought, this ain't that bad of a knife... now I've owned my fair share of CS products, ended up selling most of them, but not for their lack of usefullness, I just found something I liked more...

But ya know come to think of it, out of all the knives I own, (spydie, benchie, esee, one busse, one swamprat, zt, swiss army, case, etc.) I've never had any of them fail on me... I did break the tip on a few case knives trying to pry, but either I'm not using mine hard enough or I rotate them so frequently they never see the stress most users put them under... Anyway enough of my rant, I just wanted to know if you guys personally had any problems with yours.

Wow, no one is even going to burn me @ the stake for this one???? I was sure I would catch some flak!

I never have and I have been using their stuff for 25 years now...

Thanks dude... honest answers... whats ur favorite model (or at least the one u get the most use out of?)

I have owned about 15 or so.

Only had an issue with one. Black Rhino. It has a lock issue. I sent it back (because the lock spring is not anchored, it moves forward, and the edge of the knife gets dinged). I tried epoxying it with 2 ton epoxy, which did not hold. It came back loose and did it again (after I sent it in for a replacement, and got a brand new one with the same issue).

I tried another fix, and it did not work, and pretty much that knife sits in my drawer.

It needs a new stronger spring, and a new locking bar with a small bump or rise to keep it from happening.

Kind of ticked they sold it with the defect (knowing about it to boot).

But, they have fixed that issue in all the new triad locks I have seen, I own the new Recon 1, and it is designed without this flaw.

I've never had one fail or break.

I have the Lawman and Rajah II - both with triad lock.

The Lawman sees the most use.

Very sturdy knife, as is the Rajah II.

1. i don't know if this is considered failure to u, but my recon tanto has a wobbly kraton handle after batoning and chopping with it. But it's still working fine :D
2. my mini ak47 is so strong that it makes me believe that there aint any stronger folders. It's seriously unbreakable even under the most extreme usage.
3. i broke 1/2 inch off the tip of my XL espada less than 1 day unboxing it. The mini ak47 probably made me think that coldsteel folders are indestructable, so i tested my espada out by stabbing it full force into a hard plywood board...

too much mixed opinions on CS, I guess it boils down to taste. I will probably get a spartan eventually, and the only CS I have is a trailmaster that I bought 2 weeks ago, mainly because I'm a sucker for big bowies and this one has been going on for a long time; feels good in the hand, not too heavy for a 5/16 thick blade, looks menacing, and time and use will tell if I sent those $120 down a shithole. I took off the belt strap and fashioned a kydex belt loop for the sheath, and it seems like the sheath tends to scratch the blade quite easily, but this one seems to be meant to be used hard, so scratches on the blade don't reaaly bother me.

I probably have 3 dozen or so, mostly the more affordable ones

my trailmaster has seen 4 yrs of use, lots of limbing and trail clearing
the plastic krupp models are great cheapies....canadian belt in the tackle box and the longhunter has been a great camp chef knife for a couple yrs now
can't say enough good things about the spetnaz shovel, lives in the 4x4
lawman the past 2yrs is part of edc rotation

I would say 30% of their designs appeal to me and I have never had any problems with them except the tac series daggers have way too much retention on the sheaths and the machete edges sure need work sharpening

I've got an old Pro-Lite drop point that will slip out of lock-up with a just a little pressure on the spine. In fairness to CS though, I got that knife before I knew how to treat them, and it got thrown at quite a few trees.

I've owned a dozen or so in the last 15 years & never had one fail. My friend had the head of the screw on his AK-47's wave opener break off after screwing it back in. They just sent him a new one.

I'm going to break my SF Shovel. I'm determined to do so. I've only used it once so far. I can't imagine it can take much pounding.

I bought my first cold steel nearly 20yrs ago and over the years I've owned several more. Truthfully I've never had one completely fail. They pretty much live up to their claims. As much as I don't really care for Lynn Thompson he does sell good products.

I have only broke two things, the bad axe, which broke the head in half, and the triple action folder. (I flipped it to death)

Not a knife, but I puchased one of their hawks for throwing and I had broken it the same day I bought it, was throwing it and some other knives at this big crosscut log section I hung from a tree, did great for about 20 throws, then the handle broke off just past the head at the thicker part of the handle no less. I still have the head with broken piece of handle sticking out of it, never had the urge to buy a new one and try again.
