Truthfully, has anyone on here ever had a cold steel knife fail???

Nope, I have a new generation ak-47 that was my beater, I sanded the coating off the bottom half of the blade and it looked horrible so i haven't carried it since, Well I decided I was gonna see how tough the knife really was. I tried my hand at throwing or attempting to learn how to throw a knife into an oak tree, I threw it probably 100 times, and it stuck maybe 5-7 times, no damage, then I hit the edge as hard as I could up against a cinder block , again no damage, so I spinewhacked full force as hard as I could on the cinder block , no failure. After that i decided to do the overstrike test on the cinder block again as hard as i could. lock still worked fine. Then I hammered the knife blade halfway into a tree with a steel hammer, then hit the knife, I expected this to snap the blade in half but nope nothing happened lock still worked. Finally i hammered the tip into the cinder block and finally broke the tip off but the lock is still holding strong. People may bash them and I'm guilty of doing some bashing myself but over the past 3 days I have tortured that AK-47 and only damage was breaking the tip off, which I was trying to break the knife. I wanted to see what it would take to break the knife as I just bought a new recon 1 spearpoint as my beater work knife and wanted to know just what it would handle. The answer is pretty much everything except being hammered into a cinder block, as far as lock failure any suggestions on how to break it or ideas and ill go try it . I have seen some edges get pretty messed up as CS knives are all the rage at my job and people love to recreate those videos at work, one guy cut open a can of beans or beef stew something, and that edge was jacked up afterwards other than that no failures.

Nope, no breaks. I also used to think little of them as advertisers but I bought a few items over the years and now I can say I'm a fan! Yeah, their pig skull smashing and car bonnet stabbing is unusual but atleast they try to give you an example of toughness (albeit, in the way a 12 year old would..).

I have one of their trail hawk tomahawks, roach bellies, bushmans, special forces shovels and the sharkie pen and I think they are all well made well priced items :)

I've abused the roach belly pretty fierce and regularly sharpen it on a brick when working it hard in the garden, still holds a razor edge and hasn't got a single speck of rust after no cleaning!

It is now my mission to break this ak-47 like i said i broke the tip now I'm gonna try to break the lock any ideas and i'll go try, spinewhacking and overstrikes don't work. I'm gonna put it between 2 cinder blocks and jump on it and see it that works then hammer it back into tree and do some pull ups , I'll report back shortly....Just to let yall know I had on 2 sets of kevlar gloves from my job and kevlar sleeves that came up tp my elbow, I dulled the edge on the concrete first, just in case it failed i'd have a dull edge hitting 3 layers of kevlar, I jumped on the knife between 2 blocks about 10 times no fail, hammered it into a tree no fail, then proceeded to do more spinewhacks on cinder blocks, still no lock failure. triad lock 6 me 0

I've only tried to break my pendleton lite
It absolutely did not want to die :D

I intentionally abused a 4" Zytel Ti-Lite about 5 years ago. This involved a major hangover, scattered memories of the night before, and some almost-dry cement. The rest is up to your imagination!

Under normal circumstances though? Nope. I'm not hardcore enough to even thrash a plastic handled Cold Steel to pieces.

My modified (BRK&T full convex) Carbon V SRK is my favorite all-around camp / outdoor utility knife.

Look at the merits of the design rather than the (intentionally) over-the-top marketing.

The products are excellent at the price point. The marketing, however, is not (you knew this already!).

if you're gunning to break it, try to break it through exagerately rough normal stuff, like extremem prying, cutting open metal cans, cutting out door lock and attacking car interiors.

that damn knife isnt gonna fail, I broke the tip off , I was going for trying to break the lock It's not happening, I tried "extreme prying" I put it on 2 cinder blocks and jumped up and down on it about 10 times and nothing, then did pull ups on it , followed by more spinewhacks. That Tri-ad lock is no joke.

get one of those cheap aluminium breifcases and see if you can cut through it in under 1 minute! :)

I've never had a Cold Steel knife fail and they all came razer sharp, well fit\finnished except for their beater machetes. And I could care less what a rough use machete looks like anyway, I just take an axe file to them and use them as a working tool.

Planterz hope you keep your hands out of the way when doing your spinewhacks :D Wonder how many ak mags that knife pierced in the Cs video or how it did cutting meat surrounded by denim. Samon the edge is gone on the knife and the tip is broke I dulled the edge before trying to make it fail and still wore 3 layers of kevlar J.I.C I could jack the blade up no problem, my mission was to break the lock or at least make it fail.

Okay, I am not an abuser of knives, although i feel that you should be able to use the knife a bit hard. So, first, I did own a Titanium Ti Lite, and being careless and using the tip to pry something made of aluminum, the tip snapped off. I should not been using it as a prybar, but a piece of aluminum from a gutter? Piece of crap if you ask me.
And, had a voyager. the serrations somehow snapped off on a few, it was half serrated, so i had to file all the serrations down so they do not stick out anymore. Again, didn't beat up this knife, and I don't ever remember cutting something so hard that it should have even bothered the serrations. So, yea.
I will NEVER buy a cold steel knife again, although i do like their machetes. Those knives were good knives, and should have not given any problems, using them the way i did.
Don't buy CS. Spend your money on a knife that will NOT fail you.

As much as I dislike Lynn's sales ads Cold Steel does sell some decent quality blades. They aren't by any means my favourites but I've owned the Mini Outdoorsman, Canadian, two Finn Bears, and the Kukri and none of them has ever failed. My Mini Outdoorsman was stolen a decade or so back and the rest have been given to friends who were in need of a reliable blade. None of them ever complained about the quality either, even with the cheapies. Now if Lynn would just ease up a bit on the ridiculous videos and product write-ups...

I own about 20 CS folders and each one performs like a champ. If you want a tough knife with great value, check out Cold Steel.

Honestly ?
Have you tried spinewacking it ?
I have spinewacked slipjoint before, and the result is surprising and amusing, considering how they are often brought up as a "sure fail" in spinewacking treads.
Give it a try.

No blade failure but the sheath on my cold steel warrior katana caused rust because it was made poorly :(
