Looking for a second edc and was thinking of trying out a Kershaw just for something differant. Thinking maybe a Blur with the zdp blade mainly to try the speedsafe and the zdp in one shot. But i really do like my Spydie so was just looking for a few opinions and experience with anyone who has had both or a Blur before I spend the $. Thanks:thumbup:

Kershaw makes some really nice blades and their F&F is top notch. The blur is a great choice, its one of those knives that are much better in person than what you see in pictures. Another to consider is the JYD II w/composite blade, great knife for the price.

I only have one Kershaw, tanto blur, and while it may not be my favorite knife, I have nothing but good things to say about it. It came very sharp out of the box, good lockup and good fit and finish. My gripes were the tanto grind (I was still in my "mall ninja" mode :p) and the weight (I think it's over 4.5 oz).

If you really want to try out a ZDP Blur, go for it. If you don't like it, you can sell/trade it on the exchange. If you do like it, you have another great company to buy from. It's win-win.

Junkyard Dog II CB is lovely knife and sweet price...mine now have new G10 black/red handle, new clip, lanyard hole and standoffs in place of plastic backspacer...

Take a look at the Lahar, it’s an amazing knife for $60. The RAM is good, so is the Junkyard Dog 2.

give a try to kershaw ! they are relly good knives for the value
my ti jy dog II is one of my favorite knife

I love my Spyderco knives, but I'm happy I gave Kershaw a try as well. They've got some really nice knives, a lot of different designs and price ranges.

IMHO, it makes little sense to limit yourself to a single brand.

I have a few Kershaws, and I usually carry one in my EDC rotation.

The Blur is really nice.

Pros:

Well constructed with no play.
Razor sharp out the box.
Very strong locking mechanism. It quite surprised me infact how well it worked
Smooth assisted opening. It doesn't rip itself out your hand like some brands.
Super grippy. Avoid the older inserts that were like sandpaper like material and look for the rubber like inserts. Far easier on your pockets.

Cons:

A little large and heavy, especially for smaller hands. Sometimes I like a little smaller blade for more delicate stuff.

The Leek is a thing of wonder. I had the stainless steel, the smoky blue and now the rainbow leek.

Pros:

It is very nicely sized for my hands
The assisted opening works very well.
The blade shape is perfect for me to opening annoying sealed plastic baggies
Nice and thin so it rides great in the pocket

Cons:

The Stainless and Rainbow versions can be a little slippery on the handle. Of course the G10 handled version solves that.
The locking mechanism isn't as tough, nor is the blade so it not a heavy duty EDC knife.
The blade is very pointy, so if you abuse it badly, you might snap the point off the end like you would with most other blades.

Kershaw Skyline. I cheaper economical knife. It has no assisted opening, but what you do get is hard to beat in the low end market.

Pros:
G10 handle that is nicely shaped for gripping.
Decent blade design

Cons: I don't care for the flipper only design that sometimes rarely does not lock up properly.

I am on the market still for a decent price JYD II so I will see about that. Would love an Avalanche too.

Kershaw gives you an extreme value for the dollar and floats models that are sufficiently different from Spyderco to give you a new buying experience. As Sal said, "All good, just different".

Good god, no!

Don't try Kershaw! At first you'll think it's no big deal, just a little Blur or Leek here and there, no harm done...but soon, you'll be spending all your cash on every D2 composite edge blade or Onion-designed blade you can get your hands on, jonesin' for your next sprint run fix!

;)

I have a few and am a big fan of some of Kershaw's designs. They work for me, they might work for you, too.

As a fan of both companies, I say go for it and try something new! Life is much more interesting that way, with regard to knives or anything else!

That looks fantastic.

To the OP: A Blur in ZDP would be a nice first choice. My first Kershaw was a Blur in S30V. Another favorite of mine, if you can find it is the G-10 Needs Work. The AO on both of these makes me smile each time I use them.
