Try a Kershaw or Stick With Spyderco?

If you try a Kershaw, my vote is for a G-10 Leek with the S30V steel, the SS Leek with teh composite blade (very classy gentlemans folder), and pretty much any of the Blur family. My favorite Blur is the Foliage Green with S30V. Beware, those tractec inserts love eating denim.

As a fan of both companies, I say go for it and try something new! Life is much more interesting that way, with regard to knives or anything else!

I agree with this statement. It's nice to have a variety.
I'm happy I have so many choices.

Kershaw makes a higher quality knife, IMO, but Spyderco has better designs.

Try some of both and see what you like.

Start small, I picked this standard Leek up for $25 basically new right here on BFC.

Best $25 I have spent in awhile.

I have a standard 1660 Leek as well. It's such a pretty little knife that I won't take it to work. The quality is very very good for the very reasonable price. Makes me want to buy a few more Kershaws.

Junkyard Dog II CB is lovely knife and sweet price...mine now have new G10 black/red handle, new clip, lanyard hole and standoffs in place of plastic backspacer...

where did you get the lowrider clip? the only thing i hate about mine is the midieval fantasy knife looking clip it came with

I have a Whirlwind 1560. I always thought that the AO mechanism was kind of anemic compared to other brands. When the torsion bar finally broke after having the thing since 2003, I replaced it, thinking that it would rectify the problem. It didn't. It's still a relatively slow deploying knife for an AO. I even adjusted and oiled the pivot. I like an AO that snaps open with authority.

Does anyone else have this experience with Kershaws?

here are a few of my kershaws they are just awesome i like them equally as much as i like Spyderco

Thanks for all the info from everyone. Decided to give Kershaw a try n went with the Leek G10 S30v. Should be on its way, cant wait to get my hands on it:thumbup:

I own both spyders and kershaws, bought my first kershaw about 2 years ago, some time after the first spydie

I really love and like kershaw, have a few and they are tough, sharp, have grat prices and ergonomics
some of the best linerlocks around ( and I had and still have many LL)

Kershaw has different blade shapes, and no thumb holes. personally I like this because the spydercos all look just about the same, and some interesting blade shapes add spice to life.

Kershaw has the highest ratio of quality per dollar spent IMO. I have had a TON of kershaws and a few Spydercos in the same price category and I think that in terms of fit and finish the Kershaws win most of the time. Unless you are comparing Spydercos manufactured in Taiwan, IMO nothing in the price range touches them. Many will say that Spyderco gets the nod for ergonomics and design but Kershaw also has some very ergonomic models. Give the Junkyard Dog II, Storm II, and Tyrade a try.
