Hey guys -
My wife just bought me "The SAS Survival Encyclopedia". I can't remeber who wrote it, but it's new. It's quite a bit different than the SAS guide. The Encyclopedia has A LOT of good color photographs.
Anyway, the author says that the extremely fine cotton found in tampons makes superb tinder, and can also be used for some first aid situations. He says that everyone over there is now issued two of these little guys! Anyone ever tried this? I would have tried it last night, but my metal match busted and I have not replaced it yet. If someone wants to give it a crack I'd like to here about it.
Also, has anyone else checked this book out? My wife is the manager at the local Waldenbooks and she brought it home for me the other day. So far I have just flipped through it, but it seems very good. Goes into detail on some things that I always thought the SAS Guide cut short, and like I said, lots of good color photos. I would be particularly interested in someone elses knowledgeable opinion (Greg, or Mr. Welch?) about the first aid section. This is my weakest area, so I am trying to read and learn as much as I can. However, I want to make sure that what I am reading is accurate. Thanks everyone.
