I have been wanting to try a hamon for a while.
Finally have everything in hand to try it. Well, everything except a p.i.d. for the kiln.

Steel:
1095 and w2, both from Aldo

Quench: parks #50 from Maxim oil

Coating : Satanite from high temp tools

These are a couple of little skinner knives I make. My friends that hunt love them.

I put an initial grind on them, and pretty much followed the thread here by RyanW: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/997744-My-Hamon-Process

After profiling and drilling holes, I took the bevels to 220.
Washed with soap and water, and mixed and applied the satanite.

I let it sit for a couple hours, them put it into a toaster oven for about 30 mins to make sure it was dry.

And in case is not obvious, this is my first try, so if you see anything I did wrong, please let me know.

I should also add, after grinding, I heated the knives to 1600, cool to black, 1475, cool to black, and 1425.

I preheated the parks 50 because my garage was pretty cold.

I brought the oven up to 1450-1475 approximately.
This kiln has analog temp. So until I get a p.i.d., this is what I use.

I let the blades soak for 10 minutes at temp. Probably didn't need this long of a soak, but I am hoping a little bit of a longer soak is better than too short of one.
