Trying something new

I would like one pass and success. I am also a novice who watched a few youtube videos.
I expect to make mistakes. Sometimes big ones. But also learn from them, like this situation here.
You will get a lot of satisfaction as things come along. I posted quite a few WIP in Shop Talk as a beginner so I understand the feeling of putting everything including the mistakes and mishaps out there. The good thing is that I got a lot of advice and it made me more determined to improve and hold myself to a higher standard.

ETA: don't wear your ring in the shop.

Alright. So still waiting on the hardware for the FK2, but the knife vise arrived (not pictured) so I figured I would get started on a different, hopefully more straightforward model: Kephart.
I do love Osage Orange.

All in all after a few hours of work… I likely have a few more hours of work to tighten up the front edge to make it fit in a sheath.
But so far so good!

Update:
Got some time in the garage while momma watched the boy.

Tried taking the shoulders down on the Kephart and failed miserably. And then to top it all off, I broke a piece of the scale with the tried and true method of “smack the crap out of it” when the bolster got stuck (likely from dust build up).
I WILL fix this! Wood glue, clamp, problem beer later(?).
Positive thing here is that it will fit snug and well in both kydex and leather sheaths!

The FK2 is looking good, all things considered. Hardware came in from the mothership and it helped immensely.
The first night I got to grinding the scale I knew I had done a little too much, hence the tang sitting proud, as seen.

Both brought up to 1000 grit. Just need to do a few more rounds of hand sanding to finish it out. And then oil them.

Thanks for joining on this journey. This is only the beginning. 👍🤝
