Trying to decide on which blade to get

Hey guys how's it going

So recently I've been looking at buying another Chris Reeve to add to my collection. As of now I only have 1 CRK in my collection, and that is my large sebenza 21 with micarta inlays. Love that knife and just using the damn thing makes me want another. So anyways I've been looking at maybe picking up an umnumzaan
in the near future. On the flip side of this, I would love to try out different knives at the price level of an umnumzaan. One knife in particular that has always caught my attention is the hinderer Xm-18. Part of me is leaning towards a hinderer for the sake of trying something new, but at the same time I know I would love having an umnumzaan in the collection. And to make things even more difficult, I have always been interested in a strider as well. All of these bad boys aren't far off in price from each other, but it's picking one that is very hard for me. Just to clear things up I only own 1 CRK and I don't own any striders or hinderers. So what do you guys recommend? A strider, an umnumzaan, or a hinderer xm-18?

Thanks guys

They'll all hold value well. Decide which you'd like to try first. You could always sell it and move on to one of the others afterward.

Of the 3, I'd go after an xm-18 bowie. No good argument for it, it's just cool.

Okay thank you I appreciate the input, I think for now I've narrowed it down to either the hinderer or the umnumzaan. I do plan on getting a strider in the future though

I have owned a bunch of Umnumzaan and XM18's. The Umnumzaan is a better slicer it's hollow grind and thin pointy tip is made for cutting. But you already have that same quality in your Sebenza. The XM is thicker and stronger I actually like them better they cut good enough I and like the extra beef if needed.

I have sold all my Umbumzaans and still have 2 XM18's. That said the Umnumzaan I miss most is the Tanto it's very close to the XM18 in beef and better made (slightly) than the XM.

Well by the sound of it, either decision is a solid choice. I'm most likely going to go for the umnumzaan, but seeing as I don't have the funds yet my mind may change lol. Thanks for your input I appreciate it

You WILL eventually end up with a Umnunzaan, Hinderer & Strider, so just figure out which one you want to get first. I am Hinderer fan, and the XM-18 is a great knife, tough as nails. You just have to figure out what blade grind you want to have. I love the Strider SnG, and have one in my pocket, and happen to think it is the perfect EDC. It feels good in my hand, I love how it cuts; it is a great knife. :D

That is true, I'm sure I will end up with all 3 at some point in time. Also I should add that the umnumzaan is the only knife outta these 3 that I have actually handled in real life. This is helping sway my decision a bit and like I said I own a sebenza which I absolutely love so I'm most familiar with CRK. That being said I think I've made up my mind and am going to buy an umnumzaan. But hopefully it won't be too long until I buy the other 2! Thanks again guys

I swear by anything Chris Reeve makes. I got to handle a Hinderer for the first time last week, and I was severely unimpressed. The thing was a pain to fulle flipped. I just can't see spending that kind of money on a knife and have to learn a special way to get it flipped open. I can get my Reate(at half the cost) to flip with any one of my fingers, in various methods, and that is what I expect from a higher end flipper.
But then again, they seem to have quite the following, so maybe there is just something I'm not seeing.

This is something that I have heard and seen in YouTube videos (that hinderers have a hard time being flipped open), which is making me a little skeptical on pulling the trigger on the xm-18. I'm honestly not too sure how well they break in, but I would hope it's to the point where you wouldn't have to flick your wrist to get the thing to fully deploy. I've never handled one so I'm not to sure what the action is like but from what I've seen, it looks a little stiff

I've been recently debating between the Umnumzaan Tanto and XM-18 Bowie myself so I'll be interested to see what you decide and how you like it. I got distracted by a Brian Tighe that I had to grab however, so those two are on reserve for now :) I'll likely be getting the CRK in the near future, as I already have an XM-18 wharnie.

I'm saving up for my umnumzaan currently and its gonna be a month or two till I can purchase it😩. But I'll be sure to report back my thoughts on it. How is the action on the xm-18?

Dennis, following loosening the pivot slightly after receiving it, the action on my XM is perfect. Even with a light detente, its rare that it does not engage fully on deployment. Reminds me of my customs with IKBS, actually.

Okay that's what I was hoping to hear because I've had my eye on the xm-18 for a while now. After I buy my umnumzaan I intend to save up for a hinderer. Thanks for the reply!
