Trying to find the XHP Manix 2

Okay, I'm about to start pulling my hair out. I have looked all over for a place that I can preorder the CTS-XHP Manix 2, and I'm still empty handed. I've gone to multiple sites that were supposed to have it according to posts on this and other forums, but can find no mention of it. Two popular stores have no mention of any Manix model whatsoever. I'm really confused at this point. It's kinda early for an April Fool's joke, but that's what it feels like. If there is any place out there that I can still preorder these, I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can enlighten me.

Looks like they took the Manix off of their site. It was there a week ago.

Try Tom Berry at www.spydercovt.com. He's a forumite here and at the Spyderco forum.

I'm guessing you can't find it because it's not that close to being released.

I have seen the straight up Manix 2 on several sights. Sprint runs tend to be announced just before they hit. You might want to call one of the online dealers to put in a pre-order, or if they are willing to take them.

I've had the same experience. I think everywhere that takes pre-orders are already booked up.

I got answers from a few that they are no longer taking pre-orders for the model. I'm on a list with Tom Berry, but there is no guarantee. I will just try to source it from a place that doesn't take pre-orders once it comes out.

Well, I finally got some real info. I got an email from Jeff, saying that there are already more orders than knives, but I'm on the list just in case Spyderco accidentally makes a couple hundred extras. :(

Anyway, if you want to see some of the bizarre stuff I was talking about earlier, go look at croc blades right now. They actually have the knife listed, but here's the kicker: I can't find a way to order anything on the site! I use Firefox, so I switched over to IE just to make sure it wasn't a browser issue. Something is seriously not right with their "facelifted" site.

Wow, these specials are selling out before you even hear the "go" signal. Lucky I'm not into the ball lock or I'd be broke by now.

I'm pretty sure it's just the smaller retailers who actually get their inventory from big distributors. 2 of the biggest online retailers/dealers who had the most blue Manix 2s even after delivery still haven't listed the Carpenter XHP model so I wouldn't be too worried....

Why dont they simply make more? I cannot understand the sense of frustrating loyal customers by not producing enough of these when there clearly is plenty of demand.

I suspect the reason is that interest in places like this is actually a poor indication of overall sales. There have been plenty of sprint runs that have languished on shelves and been closed out at fire sale prices. In other cases, there may be materials/supply limitations, or at least questions, that keep them from wanting to commit to a larger run.

Look at the G10 Endura. Here is a knife that was hotly anticipated on this forum, and was discontinued because of a lack of sales. Sprint runs make sense from a business perspective because it allows them to fix costs, see the end in sight, and sell all the knives they make at a reasonable price. Keeps the dealers happy, and most of the customers.

I picked up the G10 Endura when it went disco, and I appreciate the quality. However I can see why interest was low. Having carried an Endura since they first came out I think the "thick point" blade shape of the Endura4 is as ugly as it gets cosmetically. I doubt the foliage green went over too well with most of the 10-20 year users either. If it was black G10 and had the E3 point I think sales would have been different. Just my two cents. ;)

Yeah, but are sales of the E4 FRN off? I understand where you are at on that one, but I think that the idea that every possible variation of a blade should be included as a mainline item is a recipe for disaster, even if us nuts would appreciate it.
