Trying to keep the Grandson interested.

I made my forge from a recangular gardening trough made of some type of clay. I made holes in either end for a pipe with holes to pass through. I then formed the forge "bowl"? itself from a mixture of wood ash, powdered firebrick, and clay from my woods. Its best for a knife forge to have a tuyere that is elongated, instead of just a single, large hole (if that makes any sense).

It was a very fun summer project and didnt cost anything. I would suggest that Brian make a forge and then save money to buy a grinder. Just use the forge for heat treating and forget about anvils and hammers. Unless he wants to go that route.
