Hello, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for a specific knife! I'm new to the knife world but know I want something good and solid! I'm looking for someone to assist me in leading me in the right direction for this knife!

A user posted this knife on another forum and I'm trying to get more info on it! Here is what he said, I included the photos also!

It is a Allen Ellishewitz/ Hogue collaboration called an EX01 and this one has a Chad Nichols damascus blade.

If you're looking for the specific model with the damascus, I could not find it. But I did find one with 154cm and the exact handle, here it is: http://www.bladehq.com/item--Hogue-Knives-EX01-Knife--5782

Also if you're just wanting information on it, here's the description BladeHQ gives to this knife:
"Hogue, well known for the gun grips, has ventured into the knife world. Their first offering, the EX01 Tactical Folding Knife from their Extreme™ Series, is a rock solid entry.

Although the Extreme series features a button lock mechanism, this is a manual knife. The Extreme series is designed by Allen Elishewitz. The knives look good, they are comfortable and the function & action is beyond reproach.

The black G-10 handle features a pattern the creators call "G-mascus" (G-10 & Damascus). The front of the handle has piranha texture for a better grip. The drop point style 154-CM stone-wash finished blade (plain) is razor sharp. The blade comes out with a refined smoothness and locks securley into place via the button lock mechanism. There is also a front mounted safety to lock the blade open even more securely. For easy carry there is also reversible pocket clip.

Specifications:
Overall: 8"
Blade: 3.5"
Closed: 4.75"
Weight: 4.4 oz.
Warranty: Limited lifetime warranty to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship."

Do you know how I could find one with the Damascus blade? I'm really wanting it! How much do you think the damascus blade would cost?

No problem. I found all the info just googling the model number. I googled "EX01 knife damascus" shortly after that post, and found a few sites that sell a that knife with the Damascus (Although some have different handle designs). I can not post the sites as per rules of the forum, but I'm sure if you google what I did, I'm sure you'll find a few sites.

Have you messaged the member of the other fourm? im sure he would be happy to brag about it!
It is probaly a custom limited edition or somthing.

Ok I will! If you can, you could PM me the info! :)

But I will check that out! What were the prices? I'm on my phone so it's a little difficult to google right now! Lol

That must be either a very exclusive run that must not have been widely announced, or it is a custom reblade. The original blade was removed and was replaced by the Damascus blade. You can expect to get a similar models for several hundred dollars. Chad Nicols Damascus is not inexpensive, neither is the work involved in fitting that blade into the handle properly with a good heat treat.

I would start by contacting the man himself:

I don't like the sound of that!!! Lol

So why would be a great knife to carry with simple stats to this? Without breaking the bank?

I'm sorry, I swear I saw a few with damascus blade but after closing the webpage and googling again, I can't for the life of me find the site. And I agree with the others, it might be a limited edition of some sort.

Darnit!!!

I'm trying to be patient with his response!

I'm in agreement with what Rev said. The regular 154cm blade is still very nice and MUCH more easily available. I would suggest either picking one of standard models up to see how you like it or trying to contact Mr. Elishewitz to see about commissioning a custom.

I understand that it's a good blade! And I appreciate and value you all opinion!

Please don't take me wrong but let me explain!

I'm new to knives, don't get me wrong I have had $50 kershaws and multiple gerber knives! But I'm wanting a really really nice knife! And I guess knowing what little I know about knives, I would love to have one in Damascus! If someone could explain the benefits to the blade I would really appreciate that! However for right now I guess I'm stuck on the beauty of a Damascus! :/

Please don't think I'm comin off like I don't value you all opinion! I guess I'm just kinda stuck on this knife!

I am open to other knives that are similar! If someone would like to recommend some! :)

Honestly? In this day and age I think the only benefits of damascus are aesthetic. The performance characteristics can vary widely depending on what the core steel is. The only damascus blade I own is a Mcusta Tactility and has a VG-10 core, but I've heard of other steels being used including M390. I tend to shy away from damascus blades, as I can't bear to actually use them much for fear of marring the blade.

As for other potential knives, you might want to look at some of Darrel Ralph's work, as he uses Chad Nichols damascus extensively in his custom pieces. There's even a damascus option on the HTM Gunhammer.

Maybe you need to relax a bit and be more reasonable. I can understand and appreciate your enthusiasm, however, this does appear to be a fairly rare knife. If it was common, you'd see pictures of this thing plastered all over the place. Another thing, it's currently Saturday night, not everyone is online at the moment. Patience will help get you answers, being too pushy may get you the opposite.

What is your budget for a new knife?

Thank you for your opinion! I don't know much about the steals and what they are made of! The knife that I will be carrying will be for light use! It wont be used for heavy use by any means! More os a show piece and light use!

Do you have any recommendations?
