any tips on this, my 2000 grit wet and dry doesn't seem to be doing the job and I'd rather not remove more metal than needed.

is paper and flitz my best bet?

Are you removing scratch or just want it to shine?
To make it shine Green Rouge-Cromium Oxide-Green Polishing Compound will be just fine.
