Tsunami - A LorienDesign Chopper

Hi Matt,

I'm one of those who hates brass, and ever since discovering bronze, have never looked back. The way brass WILL green out over time is a deal killer for me, haven't had that happen with bronze in 15 years of owning and using knives with it.

This is a GREAT looking knife....someday, hope to see you incorporate some habaki on your designs.

While I agree with those who mention the "Foggy" look to it, I would have preferred to see Lorien's wrap design executed on this version.

That said, it's a fantastic looking knife, one that I would be happy to own myself.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Love it bud.
Man that's a lot blade to sand!

That is a fun looking blade and man that is my absolute favorite handle design. I have done the exact handle shape with and without the wrap on some ken nata style blades. Perfect execution. Super badass

Its funny about the brass too because I love using brass. It files and drills and cold forges really easily. I use it on almost all my guards because its the cheapest to buy a lot of haha. Then I saw someone on here say "brass has no class" and I was like oh crap I guess that's why I don't see it used very often on high end knife guards... maybe I should stop being cheap and find something better hhaha

Matt - at Ashokan, at the Blacksmith gathering (not the bladesmith gathering) there was a fellow who presented who claimed to be a founding member of the Patient Order of Meticulous Metalsmiths.

That is what I do, and it is what you do. Indulge yourself. It works.

Nice that you finished it in your own idiom, so that it isn't just kicking around. I often get the idea that I will save time and just make several things that are similar so I can earn a little extra money. Never works. I have a stack of pattern welded puukko blades laying on a shelf, and one Swedish blade doing the same. A couple of bars of different pattern welding I experimented with. Several monosteel hunters and campers. All just sitting around.

Meanwhile, I work 4 or 6 hours every day I am able making a Ming Dao. Why? Because the dao excites me. This isn't supposed to be work. Not really. Work is profitable, for one thing :). By the hour.

Great job. Keep doing your thing. No one ever got very far trying to be someone else. Style is individual (unless you are an adolescent).

Here it is with its finished slip sheath. Wicket and Craig leather with black deerskin lining, and matched tsukaito to tie the package together.

someone's going to be happy!
great work, Matt- it's such an honour to have worked with you on this, and I really mean that

Great work as usual.

I too like brass, it has character and is traditional. I like nickel silver as well. Sadly both are not "cool" these days.
