TT Killa Zilla or FBM????

I love my FFBM and just the regular FBM are beasts.

However......

Everytime I hold a TTKZ I get all warm and fuzzy inside  The weight is awesome, the foreward balance is great, the handle feels amazing, and you get a sense of the chopping power. They're just one bad ars knife.

If you have the opportunity to get one or the other for the same price, I'd have to go TTKZ

They are both very capable and the advantages of each has been pretty much covered. One thing not covered is how do you sharpen your blades ... and what type of gear do you have ? The long flat edge of the FBM if using stones is easier to sharpen. The Zilla benefits from some belt sander skills ... and then stropping to keep the edge up. I also use a Spyderco Sharpmaker on the Zilla with the fine rods just to tweak the edge at the back near the handle and at the tip. I keep those a little bit sharper/thinner than the belly used for chopping ... as I want to have the belly edge robust and long lasting. Delicate work is doable with a Zilla up by the handle for fuzz sticks and up by the point for game if you don't carry a smaller knife. The same is true though of the FBM.

I carry my Zilla's in or on a rucksack for Camp use if walking any distance. I would do the same with a FBM too. Much more comfortable. On my belt I like a smaller lighter knife. Your thoughts of a SAR 6 and one or the other Zilla/FBM make sense to me. Either will work well chopping, but the Zilla when properly profiled is IMO up there with a Gransfor Brux Small Forest Axe ... and quite infront of an FBM. I have tested these together ... my old posts should be able to be found.

Carrying a knife on a belt for an extended period of walking as the "only knife" ... after years of experimenting ... I would go for a Basic 9 or the newer Basic 8's ... weight is the key issue ... you want a long blade but a light knife ...

Thanks Peter,
You actually bring up a good point about sharpening. For my SAR 6 so far I've been able to maintain a working edge with a bark river strop (green and black compound) and some 400 grit sandpaper on a mousepad.
However I can barely get the damned thing to cut paper :(. I do have a sharpmaker at home for use on folders but I don't know how long it would take to reprofile the SAR's convex edge ( do the Zilla and FBM come convexed as well?).
Is there another system or some tips that you could recommend for sharpening convex, or should I just go ahead and take the knives to the sharpmaker which I'm not exactly skilled with either (although I have gotten some smaller knives to shave hair before ). I'd like to maintain the convex edges if I can without going to a sander since I fear what might happen if I even get near a sander with a knife .

In regards to the knives, I'm strongly leaning towards the Zilla and its sexy curves with possible plans for an fbm in the very near future although I'm not completely decided yet :D

I was in the same boat as you at knob creek except my other was the killa zilla 2 and after much finger fu!@@#$ I ended up leaving with the killa zilla 2 and I absolutely love it. either way you really can't go wrong with that much infi :)

Glad to know I'm not alone here :p , and yeah I'm positive I'll be happy either way, thats why it's such a tough choice!

I think a lot of people are here on the Busse forums because they would rather pay more and get quality. There is a reason why the HI are cheaper...

I can't say the same. HI is cheaper than Busse in terms of price tag because of the wages in Nepal vs producing Busse in US.
In terms of quality, i wouldn't say HI's cheaper. They have produced some of the finest blades that could perform with flying colors.
More like user preferences - purist as traditional forged khukuris vs ultra-superior steel with machine grinding.

I wouldn't be able to comment on the TTKZ , a model i would one day afford to but i will use a parang anyday i'm walking toward my rainforest here.
