Tuesday Evening with Rajkumar's Gigantic Tin Chirra Khukuri

I disagree I think weight with proper balance is key.. with that said I don't mind a 'hefty' knife.I would choose this in a heartbeat over the link heinlein provided..

Had I not been buying so many knives in the past couple of months I would've snatched this up quick.. This is a rarity, to say the least...

Absolutely Gorgeous !!!

Ugly Duck, by your number of posts (many more than I), it's clear your not a troll here to cause trouble. Questions and answers are why the forum is here, I believe. So here goes. First, I haven't been here long, but I sure haven't seen anything quite like that in my limited time. I think it is beautiful. ALL HI blades are made by hand with basic tools. The fact that the Kamis can make a single chirra with whatever simple tools they use blows my mind. The graceful lines on that blade just sing. The handle work is incredibly detailed. Again, just basic tools. It is clear to me that Kami Rajkumar put much work and much soul into that piece and it shows. I think it is magnificent. Not long ago, Yangdu ("Auntie" to many here who care about her and her business) the owner of HI, was worried the business might not see many days. The old Kamis had gone and she wasn't sure about the new ones. The work we have seen recently, including this khukuri, are shining examples of what seems like a kind of rebirth for HI. The new Kamis are showing off their creativity and skill. Auntie has a lot of reason to be very proud and happy, and we want to share her happiness and joy. On another level, the blade is just MASSIVE! On a basic level, that knife reaks power. I like it a lot. :)

Well said! I agree wholeheartedly. :)

You put that very well. Ugly Duck has been around a little while and aperently the huge blades don't do anything for him. On the other hand, they do a lot for me.

Roger Smith reminded me the other day that I was the one that started the Huge Khukri crazy about 9 years ago. I ordered a 5lb 25" AK that I named Godzilla. It's not as pretty as this Tin Chirra, but it's still Awesome in every sense of the word. 4" Limbs fall with one chop, possibly even thicker ones, but I never had thicker ones to try it on.

Something that massive, you point in the dirrection you want it to go and you hold on. There are no last second course corrections, when it gets going, it gets going Fast! I would rest the spine of Godzilla on my shoulder, swing enough to start it moving and let gravity and momentum do the work. Sure i can swing it one handed for a while, but the control isn't there. Remember, you hand on and you really want all the help you can get. When I get some land, I want to get another blade like Godzilla for Tree Clearing and massive wood processing. Sure, a 5lb felling Ax would work, but a huge Khukri does too and it's a masive draw knife and Broad sword too.

As long as 1 person likes it, I see no problem for the Kami's to make them. And Wow, they sure are doing a wonderfull job these days. :)

If I had not already gotten the Bale (yes folks, Yangdu and I decided I must own such a blade;)) I may have been tempted by this one for sure. Somewhere is a picture of Dave Rishar with a HUGE "Baby" Ganga Ram on his shoulder. I have luster for that blade since I first saw it. :D

By the way, Dave is bigger then me and his Super Ganga Ram makes him look small. That thing is the Beast of all Beasts!!

could have sworn I kept that picture...

You are welcome. :)

the falcata is one of HIs legendary big blades... and now they have fullers, man, amazing. it's like a dui chirra on steroids. love those things.

now, if i can ever get my hands on one of the old timers falcatas :) yar.

the Rishar baby GRS is a wonder too. it makes my largest old school GRS look puny tastic :) (25 in 45 oz); and the 22 inch 64 ounce BAS i had as well. oiy!

had a nice tarwar... PROBABLY should have kept it but for some reason, i felt i had to pass it along.

i'd love to see a LONG version of the farm knive :> like, uh, 22 inches?

Well, I have a delayed, fullered Falcata ordered. I told Yangdu I wasn't able to afford it until after the New Year so she said she would simply schedule it to come then for me. I wish I had the money for it now, would really love to swing it and put it through its paces. Wonder if the one who bought the one that just sold has done anything more than gaze at it yet? Wish more folks would post reviews or at least photos of the odder pieces that pop up. Would make things a lot m ore complete here as a record. But then it is just how it is and this is not a complaint, just a wish. :)

As for that beasty of Dave's. asked him about being willed it and was told it is spoken for so maybe you can do better than I could. I did talk him out of his Bolo though so I can't complain. ;) I should have the Bale fairly soon so look for my pix/review of that piece. I think I will be comparing it to my 25" Kobra and my 30" Sirupate...

Size-wise, Wildmanh's CAK gave me a good shiver.

But if i do need to carry this around, i'm going to need Governator's training regime.

Ugly Duck mentioned :One-inch thick, three foot, over six pounds of steel giant bolo :eek:

Da Tigre probably delighted with the fact he gets to make them UBER THICK.

I remember that one, when it first showed up I drooled all over my self. It is very cool! Hope it gets used a ton. :)

don't have a shot of it alone but here it is in a group shot...

Right smack dab in the middle...

I was just being "funny" ....I totally love that blade! I also flipped over the Giant Bolo, which is why I keep re-posting the pics at every opportunity. If I wasn't completely enamored with the HI kamis, I wouldn't check in at this site every day & have HI steel hanging all over my walls. No disrespect intended...
