Tuf cloth :(

Well, Benchmade uses one of there "proprietary" coatings.

I have used the various Sentry Solutions products on my Benchmades with no issues.

There are many coatings out there, with different formulations. Some are bound to react adversely to some chemical. The wax deposition situation I have seen cause a mild discoloration that is temporary (it will come off sooner or later), but the distilate carrier can potentially damage (react with) synthetics (and thus coatings).

I think it affected one of my old Gerbers. Should't have, but no problem before use, problem after.

Now, I just use Militec and Renaissance Wax (non-coated blades).

I would wipe it down with Breakfree CLP which you can get at any gun store or sporting goods store. Not expensive. If they don't have it get "Rem-Oil" which they make.

FYI - Here is a review of various corrosion protection products.

I think this will clean off the tuff cloth coating and give you back your original color. If that doesn't work the gun store will sell a "black bluing" solution that you can wipe on.

So putting Tuf-Cloth on top of the coating is going to help it prevent rust that's forming under the coating?

Some protectants form a better barrier than some hard coatings not all of which are actually designed for corrosion resistance as Cobalt noted years ago when this was first brought up. At the very least tuf-cloth and similar will just add an additional layer of protection.
