It's TUFF to stop thinking about this knife...

Any idea if it will be late 2012 or possibly earlier yet?

I don't think it made an appearance in the 2012 catalog (correct me if I'm wrong). Judging from the past, it's absence probably means that if it is coming out this year, it will most likely be sometime during the second half.

I'm only speculating though.

Any news on the Tuff? Release time frame? Materials used in the construction? Price point? Looks like it should be a pretty sweet knife.

Titanium RIL (frame-lock)
3V blade

Sal hasn't really given firm dimensions yet. I'm REALLY curious about the thickness of the blade stock, the blade's length, etc... Anyway, this is Spyderco's attempt at a real hard use knife. "Elegant slicers" are so common in the Spyderco knifebag, it'll be cool to see them finally take a crack at a really hard use knife. (I know I know, manix, superleaf, Mili, para etc... But seriously, FFG, distal taper, fine tip... Just not the same as a really hard use knife, IMHO I really thought the Gen4 Endura/Delica Flat-Saber grind was a move in the right direction... and Spyderco even has FFG versions of those now... Elegant Slicers... sure, but "Hard Use" knives???)

Thanks. I just ordered my first Spydero a Manix 2 XL. I really like the ZT line of knives because of their heavy duty construction and this looks like just like you described, a hard use knife. I'll be looking forward to hearing more details as they become available.

From SF two days ago:

Well, we finally have approved of a prototype. We've done many, but we felt they just weren't up to the spirit needed for a production piece. So it does look good for early this year.

It's also being said that the handle will be g10 IIRC. Don't know about the blade.

I hadn't heard that it would be 3V. It's a nice addition to the awesome Schempp design, I love the fuller. If it can match the ZT0551 then it'll be plenty...er...tuff. :D

Hm... This is the first I've heard about a G10 handle... but that's very fashionable right now. G10 on one side, titanium on the other. Huh... I was stoked when they were initially talking about a compression lock for it... but that fell through quite a while back.

Anybody at the Shot show have a chance to stop by the Spyderco booth and see if there is a release date for this beauty yet?

This is an unedited copy and paste from Mr. Schempp's post in one of the Tuff threads on the Spyderco forum dated Jan. 24

I think there is a very good chance you will see this knife mid-year. It has not changed much from the picture of the proto that slipped out last year.

The texture has changed to a large dimpled surface rather than the extreme texture it had previously. It would have destroyed pockets being clipped and in deployment.

The pivot has about doubled in diameter with large flanges flush to the scales. It has a very strong framelock; that I had to disengage for many of the folks inspecting the knife at the Shot show.

Spyderco, the excellent subcontractor in Tiachung, and I have been working on this design for over 5 years to bring you a knife that lives up to its name. I hope that you enjoy the piece...Take care...Ed

Just noticed that Roger has these listed on his website now as "coming soon". MSRP $399.95. Steel is listed as 3V. Just guessing but a street price of $299, give or take?

Usually you can find Spydercos for 60% of MSRP (regular versions at least, not dealer-exclusives) from well priced sites like KW, which would put it at $240. KC always sets them at 64%, which is still only $256.

That's even better. Around the $250 mark would be ok by me.

Just an update. KW has updated their site to show "Estimated delivery in June". WooHoo! June is better than "coming soon" which was better than nothing.
