I'll bet a lot of you guys never knew or realized that there is a large inland port about five miles, as the crow flies, from Barbie and I.
I put the "Toadsuck Ferry Lock & Dam" in the title figuring that some of y'all would get a laugh out of our Okie talk ways, except this lock and dam is down by Conway Arkansas so it's Arkie talk and not Okie, take that Dan!!!!
I started to buy a 1939 Henway in Conway once a few years back and it was well worth the money but another damned ndn beat me to it.
Here's a Linky and here is another Linky to some information on the port, what it does, and how much is shipped through there a year.
I was amazed to learn that a barge would hold the equivelant of 15 railroad cars or the equivelant of 60 big 18 wheeler semi's!!!! That's a lot of cargo!!!!
I've fished on the Verdigris near the port but never down by where they load the grain barges. There is talk of grain fed wild catfish that easily go 60 pounds and better that are commonly caught down there. One of these days maybe.
