tumbled finish

I have a small vibratory tumbler and use the triangular media from Harbor Freight. That combination along with water/soap gives you a matte finish much like glass bead blasting. This finish in this pic looks a tiny bit brighter than it actually is.

I broke about half of the pieces in half and used oil instead of water and it gives you a brighter finish that's a little like a galvanized finish:

Basically oil will slow the action down and you get more polishing rather than scuffing.
As you can see in the first pic, stonewashing doesn't hide a poor finish.

I'm still experimenting. I'd love to get the kind of finish you see on Reeves and Microtechs. I plan on trying some really aggressive media for deeper scratches then following it with very fine media to smooth it out a little.
