Spent the evening convexing the edge on my Cara Cara, and softening the jimping to maintain good traction, while minimizing undue hand irritation. Hopefully I will be peeling some hog hide with it soon.

Great looking pics. How do you get the blade polished like that?

Well it certainly looks sharp! Nice work. I would also like to hear more about how you did it.

On the edge: mouse pad and wet/dry sandpaper progressing from 320, to 400, to 1000, to 2000. Then a firm wheel and compound running from #2, then #5 and finishing with a softer, (but not loose) wheel and #6. This set it up for the loaded leather strop. It shaves hair smoothly, and peels wooden curls off nicely, and push cuts newspaper decently.

I noticed during long whittling sessions that the jimping was just a bit aggravating, so I adjusted it a little. The jimping was done by 1st hitting the grooves and corners with a dremel and 400 grit sanding disk. Then a hard felt wheel and compound, then a soft felt and
#6 compound. It still grips rock solid, but without digging into my thumb and finger too aggressively.

Love those Cara Cara's. Pretty bullet proof for the money. I have one in my pocket right now.

I found a easy way to get a great convex edge.

Send it to siguy!!!

Yeah, but then what would I do with all the extra time on my "action packed" Friday nights??? :D:D
